Grace M. Lourenco, 57

LYNN — Grace M. Lourenco, age 57, of Lynn, died Thursday at her home after a battle with cancer.  She was the fiancée of Kevin Fogarty of Lynn. Born in Azores, Portugal, she was the daughter of Adelino V. and Maria T. (Sousa) Lourenco.  She was raised in the Azores, and came to the United States in 1975. She resided in Somerville before moving to Lynn many years ago.

Grace had worked at Monte’s in Lynn, and prior to that at Honeydew and Dunkin Donuts.  She loved animals, especially her cats; and also enjoyed crocheting. She loved sports, especially soccer and hockey; and enjoyed playing slot machines and going to casinos.  Grace was loved by everyone who knew her, and will be greatly missed.

In addition to her fiancé and parents, she is survived by her siblings; Adelino Lourenco, Elizabeth Perez and Joe Lourenco; as well as her niece and nephews; Erik Vieira, and David, Diane, Kevin, Joey and Michael Lourenco.  She was the sister of the late Carlos Lourenco and aunt of the late Christopher Vieira.

Service information: Her funeral will be held on Tuesday at 12 p.m. in the SOLIMINE FUNERAL HOME, 426 Broadway (Rt 129), Lynn.  Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Dorothea R. Milburn-McDermott, 99

LYNN ­­­— Mrs. Dorothea R. (Staples) Milburn-McDermott, age 99, of Lynn, died peacefully at her home on June 24, 2018. She was the beloved wife of the late Charles R. Milburn and John J. McDermott.

Born and raised in Lynn, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Barbara (Madden) Staples. She attended Lynn schools and had resided in Lynn and Salem for the majority of her life.

She enjoyed country line dancing at both the City of Peabody and Lynn senior centers, and was the oldest person to teach line dancing at the Torigian Senior Center in Peabody. She was a member of the “Starlets,” and performed several times at the Topsfield Fair. She belonged to a Pokeno Club, and enjoyed playing cards and cooking. She liked to spend time in Florida, Maine, and at her summer camp in Kingston, N.H.

She is survived by her two daughters, Barbara I. Carito and her husband Samuel of Clearwater, Fla., and Debra R. Hanson of Gardiner, Maine; her sister, Allane Berry of Lynn; 10 grandchildren, Jayne Marie Dunn, Jennifer Dawn Aquino, Jodi Lynne Carito, Bill Russell Milburn, Dawna Leshetz, Charles Cowden, Laura Milburn, Janine Eng, Heather Lane, and Gregory Hanson; 13 great-grandchildren; as well as one great-great grandchild, Bentley. She was the mother of the late Donald R. Milburn; grandmother of the late David Carito, and sister of the late Barbara Vetere and Nioma Conti.  

Service information: Her visitation will be held on Wednesday from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the SOLIMINE Funeral Home, 426 Broadway (Route 129), Lynn. Michael Francis Schena, 72

SAUGUS — Mr. Michael Francis Schena, age 72, of Saugus, died unexpectedly at the Melrose/Wakefield Hospital in Melrose on Saturday, June 23, one day after celebrating his 50th wedding anniversary with his loving wife, Kathleen M. (Allen) Schena.

Born and raised in Revere, Michael was the son of the late Anthony and Phyllis (Bruzzese) Schena. He was the retired CEO of Better Made Snack Foods of Detroit.

Mr. Schena started out as a professor of Geography at URI and Salem State College. He later became a foreman for Moliterno Stone Co., a purchasing agent for Acton Corp. and was a manager at Boyds Potato Chips and the GE. He was a member of the ITAM and the Men’s Club in Delray Beach, Fla., where he would spend the winters. Michael loved fishing, gardening and storytelling.

Mr. Schena loved spending time with his three beloved children, Michael F. Schena Jr. and his wife Lorinda of Saugus, Dr. Anthony J. Schena and his wife Heatha of Lynnfield, Daniel I. Schena and his wife Ellen of Saugus; and his eight cherished grandchildren, Michael III, Matthew, Mark, Mackenzie, Sam, Kasey, Catherine and Danica. He is also survived by his brother, Robert Schena of Maine.

LYNN — Romel Danis, of Lynn, passed away Saturday, June 23 2018, at the age of 25.

Born in Cayenne, French Guiana, on April 8 1993, he was the son of Pastora Silverio, grandson of Bernadina Silverio. He leaves behind his two brothers, Jhonny Bryan and Rubin Pena, and an abundance of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was a staple at Vargas Market in Lynn where he’s worked since the business was established. He enjoyed video games, telling jokes, and was always able to make light of a difficult situation.

Service information: Services will be held June 28 from 6-8 p.m. at GOODRICH Funeral Home, 128 Washington St., Lynn, and also June 29 from 12-1 p.m. at Pine Grove Cemetery, 145 Boston St., Lynn. (Location of repass will be announced after service.)

Sheila M. Marshall, 60

PEABODY — Sheila Marie Marshall, age 60 years, of Peabody, died Tuesday at her home, surrounded by her family after a lengthy illness. She was the wife of James C. Marshall Jr., with whom she shared 40 years of marriage.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late John W. and Mary (Regan) Allen. She was educated in Springfield and graduated from Commerce High School, Class of 1975. She moved to Peabody in 1979, and has resided in Peabody ever since.

Sheila was employed as a waitress at the Century House for several years, she then drove a school bus at the Essex Technical School in Danvers for nine years until she had to retire due to health reasons. She also drove the Salem Trolley in downtown Salem for several summers. Sheila enjoyed sewing, crocheting and cooking, was a Patriots and Red Sox fan. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren.

In addition to her husband she is survived by one son, Allan J. Marshall of Peabody; one daughter, Christine E. Marshall of Peabody; one sister, Carol and her husband Ken Dickerson of Harker Heights, Texas; two grandchildren, Avery and Patrick Marshall, both of Peabody; and one nephew, Stephen Dickerson of Harker Heights, Texas.

LYNN — Elaine M. Parker, age 80 years, of Lynn, died peacefully, Wednesday morning at her daughter’s home in Saugus, with her family by her side. She was the wife of the late Douglas R. Parker, with whom she shared 33 years of marriage. She was also the longtime companion of Richard H. Germano.

Born in Swampscott, she was the daughter of the late Robert W. and Harriette M. (Goodwin) Gardiner. Elaine attended Swampscott schools and graduated from Swampscott High School, Class of 1955.

She was employed in the payroll department, for the School Department City of Lynn for more than 30 years until she retired in 2002, after her retirement she assisted in the operation and management of the Parker Funeral Home in Lynn until 2015. She was a member of the former Broadway United Methodist Church, Grace United Methodist Church, and the Lynn Retiree’s Association. She enjoyed dancing, spending time at her camp in Center Ossipee, N.H., and loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by five children, Richard D. and his wife Melinda J. Parker of Lynn, Wendy M. and her husband John E. Heath of Saugus, Glenn A. and his wife Mary Ellen Parker of Gonic, N.H., Bonnie A. Parker and her companion Michael A. Bossi Jr. of North Ft. Myers, Fla., Gardiner S. and his wife Lisa M. Parker of Lynn; one brother, James L. and his wife Judy Gardiner of Lakeland, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Andrea M. and her husband Jamie O. Santos of Peabody, Michael J. Heath of Saugus, Jessica L. and her husband Zack J. Wedgeworth of Barrington, N.H., Matthew A. and his wife Nicole E. Parker of Barrington, N.H., Justin S. and Samantha M. Parker of Lynn, Christopher J. and John R. Parker of Seabrook, N.H.; two great-grandchildren, Parker J. and Elle M. Santos of Peabody, and many nieces and nephews. She was also grandmother of the late Douglas R. and Robert C. Parker.

Theoni Dezerene, 106

SAUGUS — Mrs. Theoni (Psehoyas) Dezerene, age 106, of Saugus, passed away at The Herrick House in Beverly, on Wednesday, June 27, 2018, with her loving family by her side.

Theoni was born on June 20, 1912, in Lynn, the daughter of the late Peter and Caleroy (Kossivas) Psehoyas. She was the devoted wife of 51 years to the late Thomas Dezerene, who died in 1987. Theoni graduated from Lynn Classical High School and went on to become a lathe operator at the Watertown Arsenal during World War II. She was then transferred to the Charlestown Naval Shipyard where she became a real-life “Rosie the Riveter” on airplane carriers. Following the war, Theoni became a presser for ladies shoes at Stride Rite Corporation in Boston. Theoni worked for Stride Rite for 32 years before retiring in 1978.

Theoni loved to entertain and would often welcome family and friends to her home where she would host many parties serving Greek food and homemade pastries. She also enjoyed spending time with her friends and loved playing Bingo. Theoni also traveled extensively with her husband visiting many countries in Europe including Greece. Theoni will always be remembered for her sharp wit and her wonderful words of wisdom to whomever she met. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the entire staff at The Herrick House in Beverly and Care Dimensions of Danvers, for the loving and compassionate care Theoni received while under their care.

Theoni was predeceased by her two brothers, Charles and George Psehoyas, and her five sisters, Chrisoula Karapas, Jean Psehoyas, Anne Smith, Nikoleta Mandragouras and Athena Northey. She leaves behind her many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, great-grand-nieces and great-grand-nephews.

Service information: A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 2, 2018, in St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Lynn, at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Cecile Sternberg, 89

LYNN — Cecile Marie (Laberge) Sternberg, 89, of Bond Street, Lynn, died at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers (formerly Hospice of the North Shore), Wednesday, June, 27, 2018, after battling numerous health issues.

Born in Central Falls, R.I., she was the daughter of the late Horace and Bella (Gould) Laberge of Canada. She was a resident of Lynn for most of her life and was educated at the former St. Jean de Baptiste School in Lynn. She later worked at Sylvania and the old Champion Lamps on the Lynnway in Lynn.

She married George Sternberg Jr., a Navy man stationed in Boston, and settled briefly in his hometown of Chicago, Ill., where she had her only child Theresa, an attorney from Salem. After her husband’s early and unexpected death from cancer, Cecile returned to Lynn. She was employed for more than a decade at the former Lynn Hospital on Boston Street. Prior to her retirement, she worked as a home health aid, assisting the elderly.

Cecile had many interests, particularly film and the arts. She pursued line and tap dancing for many years, appearing in several group tap performances, including one at Lynn City Hall and the Winthrop Middle School. Prior to becoming ill, she regularly participated in YMCA retirement meetings and many of the functions sponsored by GLSS and senior groups in and around Lynn.

Many observed that Cecile lived by values represented by her “Great Generation” — hard work, strength, character, and optimism. Her friends and neighbors recall her kindness, freely given compliments, and encouragement.   

Cecile is survived by her daughter, Attorney Theresa Sternberg of Salem. She was the sister of the late John V. Laberge, a longtime high school teacher at Lynn Classical and Lynn English and an accomplished pianist and choral member; the late Francis (“Frank”) Laberge of Lynn and Charlestown; and the late Rita LeBlanc of Middleton. She also leaves behind several nieces and a nephew.

Service information: Cecile’s funeral will be held on Monday, July 2, at 10:30 a.m. at the CUFFE-McGINN Funeral Home, 157 Maple St., Lynn. Burial of her ashes will follow in St. Jean Cemetery, Lynn. DANVILLE, N.H. — Mrs. Irene F. (Bates) Poole, age 90, of Danville, N.H., formerly of Lynn, died on Monday, June 25, 2018 at Exeter Center Rehabilitation and Nursing, after a brief illness. She was the wife of her deceased husband, Ernest Poole Sr., and the mother of her deceased son, Ernest “Butch” Poole.

She is survived by a sister, Joan “LouLou” Appleby of Florida; and several nieces and nephews including Linda Doucette and her husband Hervie, with whom she resided. “Life was good.”

LYNN — Lori Ann (Randell) Evans, age 59, of Lynn, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 26 at home surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Saugus, she was the daughter of the late David W. and Rita (Sapuppo) Randell. She graduated from Lynn English High School with the Class of 1977. Lori also attended North Shore Community College. She worked as a Senior Risk Analyst at Brown Brothers Harriman & Co. in Boston and worked in Risk Information Technology for other financial services firms in Boston and in Tampa for many years.

Lori was the loving mother of Kelsey N. Evans of Lynn and Andrew J. Evans of Bridgewater, the dear sister of her twin, Lisa M. Randell of Danville, N.H., Lynne J. Randell of Merrimac, and Suzanne E. Randell of Fremont, N.H.; the cherished aunt of Jeffrey J. Randell of Apex, N.C.; Jessica A. Randell of Fremont N.H.; and Hannah C. Randell of Merrimac. Lori also leaves her Aunt Jean R. Crescenzo of Salem.

VENICE, Fla. — Barbara A. Harnois, 87, of Venice, Florida passed away June 26, 2018. She was born in Malden and moved to Florida 5 years ago from Woodstock, New Hampshire. Barbara graduated from Everett High School in 1948. She loved to travel, especially on cruises, and warm destinations; she also enjoyed nature, animals, and people. She also was an avid fisherman and loved to fish the rivers and lakes of New England and Canada.

Survivors include her daughter, Barbara and son-in-law Scott Reynolds of Port Charlotte, Fla.; sisters, Ethel Marino of Middleton and Diane Horvath of Maine. She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur in 2017.

LYNN — Sean Nobile, age 42, of Lynn, passed away at his home unexpectedly due to a long-term illness on June 26, 2018. Sean enjoyed all aspects of sports from hockey to football and everything else in between. Sean was always smiling and making sure everyone else around him was okay. He was a jokester for sure, always being wise. Sean leaves behind his mother, Beverly Drillis and his brother Nick Drillis, both of Lynn, many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. He especially shared a special bond with his little cousins Zachary and Niko Lucas, who always kept Sean smiling and gave him motivation in life. He was the son of the late Nicholas Drillis Jr.

LYNN — R. Jean (Foley) Kelly, 92, of Lynn, died peacefully at Putnam Farms Harborcare in Danvers on Thursday, June 28. She will be missed. She was a wonderful Wife and Mother. She spent years at Union Hospital as the receptionist in the Mental Health Dept. and volunteering at her Church and in the Community. She always had a curious mind and was a voracious reader, a talented seamstress, knitter, and baker. She impacted all who shared her path with her compassion and wisdom.

Jean was predeceased by her parents and 2 siblings, her husband John J. Kelly and her daughter Nancy Jean Scannell and also leaves her children; Jay and his wife Cindy, daughter Mary Jo and her husband Joe LaPointe and her son, Jamie Kelly. She also leaves her grandchildren, David Kelly, Matt Kelly and his wife Valerie, Conor Kelly and his wife Meaghan, Meghan Kelly, Noelle Kelly and her husband Austin Wine, Hannah Kelly, Joe Kelly, Amy and Heather LaPointe along with 4 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

HAVELOCK, N.C. — Sara (Sally) I. (Thibodeau) Sowinski age 95 died Monday, June 25, 2018 at Cherrypoint Bay Nursing Home in Havelock, North Carolina. Formerly of Lynn, Sally was the daughter of the Late Aurel and Edwidge (Legere) Thibodeau. She was married to the late Edward S. Sowinski. She is preceded in death by her loving daughter Marilyn T. Calvani. She was the sister of the late Reginald and Joseph and Robert Thibodeau, and the sister of the late Ruth Levasseur and Jean Jordan and Peggy McArthur. She is survived by her Son William J. Sowinski and his wife Joan of New Bern, North Carolina. She is also survived by her sister Theresa Upton of San Antonio, Texas. Sally is survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great, great grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.

Jon Barry Anderson

LYNN — Jon Barry Anderson, a life-long resident of Lynn, passed away on Thursday morning, June 28, 2018 in the NSMC – Union Hospital in Lynn at the age of 56. Born in Lynn on July 10, 1961, he was the son of Carol A. (Looker) Anderson and the late Ivar E. Anderson.  Jon was raised and educated in Lynn. He was a graduate of Lynn English High School. Jon went on to dedicate himself as an employee of the US Postal Service in Lynn. He began his career as a letter carrier before retiring, just three weeks ago, from the maintenance department in the Lynn office. Jon had a passion for music and was an accomplished bass player in local Lynn bands. He performed around Lynn and surrounding cities in the bands; 12:01 Band, The Nation Band, and most recently, the Lite Finger Klepto’s.

In addition to his mother, Jon leaves his wife of 18 years, Deborah M. (Boyle) Anderson of Lynn, his son, Barry Anderson and his wife, Gina of Peabody, his grandson, Isaac Anderson of Peabody, his siblings; Kurt Anderson and his wife, Lauren of Peabody, David Anderson and his wife, Shelley of Va., Jay Anderson of Lynn, and Kristin Matheson and her husband, Kenneth of Lynn.  Jon also leaves his parents-in-law, Edward J. and Jacqueline Boyle of Lynn. Many nieces and nephews also survive him. Jon also leaves his beloved dogs, Layla, Emma, and Ava.

LYNN — Donald Gene Brewer, a long-time resident of Lynn, passed away in the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers on June 27, 2018 at the age of 72. Donald leaves his loving wife of 26 years, Barbara E. (Hilton) Brewer of Lynn.

Service information: At Donald’s request, funeral services will be held privately. Donald was a late Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War. He dearly loved his country and his flag. Donald’s family would like to thank the staff of Care Dimensions for the loving care he received. Arrangements are under the direction of the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St. Lynn. LYNN — Margaret A. (Furey) Crowley, a life-long resident of Lynn, passed away in her home surrounded by her loving family on Friday, June 29, 2018 at the age of 90.  Born in Lynn on January 4, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Annie (Hennessey) Furey. Margaret was raised and educated in Lynn English High School.  She was the wife of the late Joseph T. Crowley with whom she shared over 43 years in marriage together until Joseph’s passing in 1995. Margaret worked for many years in the Lynn school department before finishing her career with the Devlin Nursing Home before its closing.  In her spare time, Margaret loved to complete the challenge of a crossword puzzle but nothing compared to the joy she had when she spent time with her family.

Margaret is survived by her children; Joseph Crowley and his wife, Kathleen of Lynn, Clark Crowley and his companion, Lorraine Fucillo, of Lynn and Carole Walls of Falmouth, her nine grandchildren; Joseph Crowley and his wife, Tammi, Patrick Crowley and Janelle Hanna, Sean Crowley, Cara Crowley, Kristina Jay, Carole Christian, Kimberly Green and her husband, Harry Yuan, Erin Cerritos and her husband, Moses, and Clark Crowley-Bunyard and his husband, Andrew, her twelve great-grandchildren; Jasmine Jay, Jason and Hannah Christian, Harry and Hayley Yuan, Gabriella, Olivia, and Moses Cerritos, Keegan, Tess, Maeve, and Paisley Crowley, and her sister, Theresa Furey of Nahant.  She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Arthur Walls along with her siblings; Lawrence, William, Walter, Michael, Nicholas, Charles, Donald, John, Rosemary, and Frances Furey and Ellen Keniston.

Service information: A Funeral Mass will be held in St. Pius V Church, 215 Maple St. Lynn on Friday, July 6, 2018 at 11 a.m.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Broadway Lynn. ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. — Edith Marie Owen, age 82, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 24, 2018, in Zephyrhills, Fla.

She was born on June 13, 1936 in Lynn to Chester and Bertha (Webber) Hutchins. She was a 1954 graduate of Lynn Classical High School. She was the owner and operator of Edie’s Restaurant in Jacksonville, Fla.

Edie is survived by her four children, Bob Stead, Wayne Stead, Robin Stead, and Michael (Mary) Szczawinski; six grandchildren, Lindsay (Alexander) Janes, Erica Stead, Emily Stead, Thomas Stead, Andruw Szczawinski, and Tyler Szczawinski; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Artie (Donna) Hutchins, Larry (Janice) Hutchins, and Robert (Carol) Hutchins; and one sister, Dorothy Monteith. Edie was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Pearl Newell.

Service information: A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Community of Christ Church in Zephyrhills.
