Ralph F. Mazola, 67

LYNN — Ralph F. Mazola, 67, of Lynn, died peacefully early Saturday, Feb. 8, 2020, with his family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer. 

He was born and raised in Lynn and was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School in 1971.

Ralph was a foreman with the Osram Sylvania Company at the Salem, Danvers and Mexico plants for a total of 30 years. He later worked at Garelick Farms in Lynn prior to his retirement.

Ralph’s great sense of humor, quick wit and pleasant manner made him a joy to be around. He loved playing and studying the game of golf, enjoyed playing cards, and often bowled with his brother and close friends. Ralph was an avid reader and follower of Boston sports teams, but his most precious time was spent with his grandson, Gavin James.

Ralph is survived by his two daughters and their spouses, Katelyn and Andrew Savard and Molly and Eric Rodriguez, all of Peabody; his siblings and their spouses, Alfred and Judy Mazola, Daniel and Terri Mazola, Diana Mazola, Tina and Randy Brown and Lucy Mazola, all of Lynn, Linda and Dennis Gaudet of Peabody and Annette Mazola and her companion John Callonas of Saugus; his cherished grandson, Gavin James Savard; and many nieces and nephews. He was the loving companion of 23 years to Peggie Actis of Danvers and the former husband of Terry (Shaw) Mazola Annese.

Service information: A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. at the CONWAY, CAHILL-BRODEUR Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody, facility. His funeral service will be held there on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2020 at 11:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. A family burial will be held at a later date. Lillian A. (Gainey) Thibodeau, 92

PEABODY — Lillian A. (Gainey) Thibodeau, 92, of Peabody, formerly of Lynn, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 7, 2020. She was the devoted wife of the late Earl J. Thibodeau.

Born on December 7, 1927 in Lynn, she was the cherished daughter of the late Jeremiah W. and Lillian M. (Andrews) Gainey. Lillian attended Lynn English High School, graduating with the Class of 1945. Following graduation, Lillian received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She had a desire for knowledge and taught elementary school at the Captain William Shoemaker School for 27 years.

She lived an active life full of activities like swimming, practice yoga, traveling, attending the movies and being a member of the Golden Girls of Lynn.

However, Lillian’s greatest passion of all was spending time with her 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Lillian is survived by her children Lynne Cunningham of Amesbury; Jeanne McMenimen and her husband David of Marblehead; Cheryl Carden and her husband Stephen of West Haven, CT; John E. Thibodeau and his wife Susan of Lexington; and Mary White of Salem; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her sisters Geraldine Donahue and Kathryn M. McManus.

Service Information: Lillian’s visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 from 8:30 to 9:30 AM at the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple Street, Lynn. Her funeral mass will follow at 10:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Church, Swampscott. Interment will be at Swampscott Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations to be made in Lillian’s name to the Brooksby Village Student Scholarship Fund, 100 Brooksby Village Drive, Peabody, MA. 01960.

Helen “Claire” (Newman) Sholds, 84

PEABODY — Helen “Claire” (Newman) Sholds, age 84, of Peabody and formerly of Lynn, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, February 5th, 2020. Born on April 21st, 1935 in Lynn, MA, she was the daughter of the late Helen (Kuzmin) Newman and Percy Newman. She grew up in Lynn, MA, graduated from Lynn Classical High School in 1953 and went on to work as a records librarian at the General Electric in Lynn for 42 years.

Claire was the devoted wife of Robert E. Sholds with whom she spent 65 years of marriage. She was a loving mother to Diane (Sholds) Gallucio and Richard Sholds and his wife Sheryl all of Peabody. She was a wonderful grandmother to Christopher Gallucio and his wife Jaime, Andrea Pease and her husband Joshua, Nicole Silva and her husband Johnathan all of New Hampshire, and Kayla, Michael, and Kristina Sholds all of Peabody. She also leaves behind four great-grandchildren, Brayden and Sophie Pease, Dylan Gallucio, and Colton Silva. She leaves her sister Gail Mezakowski of Florida and was predeceased by her two brothers, Thomas Newman and Robert Newman. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews as well.

Claire was an avid crafter and knitter and loved to waltz with her husband. She enjoyed vacationing in Florida as well as summering at her camp in Maine and traveling the country. Her grandchildren and especially her great-grandchildren were the light of her life and she loved them beyond measure. She will be missed by all.

Service Information: A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 13, 2020 in the SOLIMINE FUNERAL HOME, 426 Broadway (Rt. 129), Lynn at 11a.m. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, West Peabody. Christine L. (Ashley) Foster Senftleben, 72

SAUGUS — Christine L. (Ashley) Foster Senftleben, 72, of Saugus, passed away at Mass. General Hospital on February 9, 2020 after a gallant two and one half year battle with ALS.

The daughter of the late Robert C. and Elsie S. (Selin) Ashley, Christine was born in Beverly, MA on October 22, 1947. She was a graduate of Saugus High School and received her Bachelors Degree in education from Salem State College, now Salem State University. She was a professional banker at various branches of Eastern Bank until her retirement. She was a very active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church of Saugus. She enjoyed traveling world wide with her husband Carl.

Christine was predeceased by her first husband, Steven D. Foster, a Saugus Police Officer, and is survived by her husband of 14 years, Carl H. Senftleben of Saugus; two daughters and their husbands, Alison C. and Jason Marshall of Boston, and Stephanie L. and Douglas Glassman of Dartmouth, MA; three grandchildren, Olive Senftleben of Webster, NY, Zachary and Lilliana Glassman of Dartmouth, MA; a step-son, Brad and Heather Senftleben of Webster, NY; a brother, William R. Ashley of Saugus, MA; nieces and nephews, and her beloved caregiver, Courtney Watt.

Service Information: Relatives and friends are cordially invited to a Celebration of Life on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. in St. John’s Episcopal Church, 8 Prospect St., Saugus, MA 01906. Private burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Saugus.

Dorothy J. “Dottie” (Langlois) Macaione, 100

LYNN — Dorothy J. “Dottie” “Dot” (Langlois) Macaione, a lifelong resident of Lynn, passed away peacefully at her residence on Friday, February 7, 2020, one month after celebrating her 100th birthday. She was the beloved wife of the late James V. Macaione, with whom she shared 55 years of marriage and predeceased her in 2001. Born in Lynn in 1920, Dot was the daughter of the late Frank and Dorothy (Germain) Langlois. She was raised and educated in Lynn and graduated from St. Mary’s Girls High School in 1937. She worked for Premier Shoe Shop, T.W. Rogers, The Dime Store, General Electric River Works, was a clerk at Union Hospital for many years and as the office manager for Dr. Julius Sozanski. She was a volunteer ESL Teacher in the Lynn Asian Community and served in the auxiliary at Union Hospital for many years. She was a former First Aid Instructor for the American Red Cross and former Air Raid Warden. Starting in 1956, Dot became involved with the Girl Scouts. “Girl Scouts has been my life,” she told the Lynn Item in a 2018 article. Her longtime commitment to the Girl Scouts has earned her some of the organizations highest honors; Thanks Badge (1985), President’s Award (2012), Thanks II Badge (2018) and many others. Dot was also a proud member of the Lioness Club in Lynn beginning in 1985 to 1992 and becoming a Charter Member of the Shoe City Lions Club in 1992, who honored her as the Woman of the Year in 2015. She held many positions, including serving on the Board of Directors and was awarded the distinguished Melvin Jones Award, the highest award given to a Lion. She served on the Board of Massachusetts Senior Action Committee, North Shore Chapter and advocated tirelessly for seniors across the Commonwealth and in 2016, she was nominated as their “Unsung Hero”. She was the resident representative for St. Theresa House Board of Directors, where she lived, an avid reader and enjoyed jig saw puzzles and crossword puzzles. She was a talented knitter and quilter and member of the Hammersmith Guild, often using her skills with St. Mary’s Church Shawl Committee and at Centerboard. Dot was a true champion of volunteerism in her daily life, saying, “It doesn’t take much to be a volunteer. All you’ve got to do is do it. That has been my motto. The years have been good to me.” and “I do not feel I do more than others. I just feel we should all work to make things better for each other. It is just what I have always done.”

Dorothy is survived by her loving daughters Dorothy R. Thibodeau and her companion William Foglietta of Lynn and Mary-Ann Macaione and her companion John Turner of Peabody; her grandchildren, Kimberlee Girard, Paul Amirault and his wife Amy and Mark Amirault and his wife Cameron; her great-grandchildren, Ashleigh, Ryan, Amelia and Eloise; her sister Sr. Dorothy Marie Langlois, C.S.C. Sisters of the Holy Cross, South Bend, Indiana; her dear friend Tom Pappas and her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, Dorothy was predeceased by her siblings Frank, Albert, Robert, Charles and Bernice Langlois and Theresa Dooley and Marie Minor.

Service Information: A Funeral will be held on Friday, February 14, 2020 at 9:30a.m. in the SOLIMINE FUNERAL HOME, 426 Broadway (Rt. 129), Lynn, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Mary Church, Lynn at 10:30a.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Lynn. William A. Parsons, 86

SAUGUS — Mr. William A. Parsons, age 86, of Saugus, formerly of Lynn, died on Friday evening, February 7th, at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose. He was the husband of the late Catherine V. (Quigley) Parsons.

Born in Keene, New Hampshire and raised in Lynn, he was the son of the late Leroy and Mary (O’Callahan) Dow. A resident of Saugus, Mr. Parsons was a Lynn English High School class of 1951 graduate, worked as a clerical worker for NYNEX, and was a US Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict. William was active at the Saugus VFW, Knights of Columbus, Saugus retired men’s club, a former board member for the Saugus Council on Aging and a member of IBEW union.

He is survived by his brother in law William Quigley and his wife Anna of Saugus.

LYNN — Thomas E. McEnaney, Jr., died Monday, February 10, 2020 at his home. Thomas was born on December 6, 1943 in Lynn, Massachusetts. He was the son of the late Thomas E. McEnaney, Sr. and Josephine (Finn) McEnaney. He is survived by his sons Shawn of New Jersey and Mickeen of North Carolina, a daughter April Bailey of Washington, his siblings William and his wife Judith McEnaney and Susan and her husband Charles Faia, brothers-in-law Dominic Russo and Charles Mpelkas. He was predeceased by his sisters Joanne Russo and Ann Marie Mpelkas and his brother Daniel McEnaney. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

Tom was a bricklayer who took great pride in his work. He was an avid gardener who would spend hours working in his yard. Tom was a loyal Patriots fan! Tom also loved going to the Horse Races whether Suffolk Downs, Saratoga or Belmont. Tom was a very devoted animal lover. His dog, Molly, was his loyal companion, always by his side. Tom was loved by all and will be sorely missed by his family and friends.

Joseph T. Casey, 85

NAHANT — Joseph T. Casey, age 85, of Nahant, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. Born on August 25, 1934, Joe was the son of the late Martin T. and Nora G. (Tamero) Casey. Joe was predeceased by his beloved wife Frances T. (Civiello) Casey with whom he shared 54 years of marriage.

Joe was born in Lynn and attended St Patrick’s School. When he was a young child, his family moved to Nahant where he spent his boyhood exploring its natural beauty: East Point, Forty Steps, and Swallow’s Cave were among his favorites. He attended Nahant Public Schools before graduating from Lynn Classical High School in 1952. From 1952-1956, he served his country as a Gunner’s Mate on the U.S. Navy destroyer USS Wallace L. Lind (DD-703).

Joe worked at General Electric in Lynn, beginning his career on the Apprentice Program as a machinist and then becoming a Facilities Engineer Manager where he was well respected and liked throughout his career. He retired from General Electric after 38 years. When his wife was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, he was her devoted caregiver until her passing in 2014.

Joe is survived by his two daughters, Kathleen Eaton and her husband Douglas of Nahant, MA and Diane M. Riccio and her husband Daniel of Atherton, CA, and his son Joseph D. Casey and his wife Karin of Atkinson, NH. He also leaves his grandson Michael Roberto and his “own personal nurse” granddaughter Christina Roberto both of Nahant, MA his granddaughter Carina Slate of Bangor, ME, his granddaughter Nora Casey, of Atkinson, NH, and his great-granddaughter Natalie Slate of Skowhegan, ME. Joe leaves his brother and best friend Martin Casey and his wife Gail of Merrimack, MA. He is predeceased by his brother Edward Casey of Rosehill, KS. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews as well. Joe enjoyed playing bridge and cribbage with his friends and family. For the past several weeks, he found solace in watching the Western television shows of his childhood. Joe will be fondly remembered for his kindness, generosity, warm heart, sense of humor, and quick-witted jokes which were shared with all those fortunate enough to know him.

Service Information: His funeral will be held on Saturday at 9AM from the SOLIMINE FUNERAL HOME, 67 Ocean St. (Rt 1A), Lynn, followed by a Funeral mass in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Nahant at 11AM. Dorothy A. Bowden, 82

LYNN — Dorothy A. (Bourbeau) Bowden, 82, lifelong Lynn resident, died Saturday February 8, 2020 after a lengthy illness. Born in Lynn to the late Leo and Grace (Gorham) Bourbeau, Dorothy was a 1956 graduate of Lynn English High School. She was the loving wife of the late Robert L. Bowden, with whom she shared 55 years of marriage. Dorothy worked as a clerk for several telecommunication companies for many years, ultimately retiring from Verizon. Dorothy enjoyed crocheting, knitting, crafting, dancing, singing, and playing Bingo at the Knights of Columbus. Most importantly, she loved being surrounded by her family, especially spending time together on New Year’s Eve.

Dorothy is survived by her 5 children; Richard Bowden and his wife Carol of Seabrook, NH, Laurence Bowden and his wife Stephanie of Lynn, Cheryl Pescia and her husband Steven of Londonderry, NH, Ronald Bowden and his wife Dianna of Northwood, NH, Daniel Bowden and his wife Tara of Methuen, 12 grandchildren; Christopher and his wife Kayleen, Sarah and her husband Spencer, Jacqueline, Benjamin, Jillian, Jason and his wife Brittany, Andrew and his wife Kelsey, Christina and her fiancé Christopher, Tyler, Taylor “Missy”, Michael and Ashley , two great grandchildren; Julian and Josephine, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother Gene Bourbeau.

Service Information: Dorothy’s funeral service will be held at 10AM on Friday February 14, 2020 from the SOLIMINE FUNERAL HOME 426 Broadway (Rt129) Lynn followed by a funeral mass at 11AM at St Pius V Church, Lynn. LYNN — Ernest F. Lessa, 79, of Lynn, passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, with his family by his side, following a long illness.

Born in Lowell, he was the son of the late Frank and Kathryn (Haines) Lessa. He was employed by General Electric Riverworks in Lynn for over 30 years as a Utility Clerk. Following his retirement he volunteered as an Ombudsman servicing nursing homes in the greater Lynn area. Ernie also was a volunteer at the Boston Soup Kitchen prior to his illness. He was an avid Red Sox and Navigator fan.

Ernie leaves his daughter, Suzanne K. O’Brien-Wallace and her husband Burke of Peabody, and grandchildren, Caitlyn Lessa of Lynn, Jacklyn DiLeo and her husband Jon of N Billerica, David O’Brien of Arlington, VA, and his former wife, Jeannette I. (Corbin) Lessa of Lynn as well as nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Michael E. Lessa and grandson Michael Lessa, Jr.

LYNNFIELD — Julia R. Rea, 87, of Lynnfield, died on Monday, Feb. 10 at her residence.

Born in Lynn on Dec. 11, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Rosario and Lucy (Coscia) Bucchiere.

Ms. Rea was a graduate of Saugus High School, Class of 1950 and attended Burdett Business School. She worked for General Electric as a secretary, a licensed realtor and had retired from Analogic in Peabody as a telecommunication supervisor. Ms. Rea had been a Lynnfield resident for the past 45 years and was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Lynnfield. She enjoyed oil painting, knitting, crocheting, crosswords, puzzles, cribbage and reading.

Ms. Rea is survived by her three daughters, Pamela J. Munger of Delaware, Lori DeCosta of Danvers and Carolyn Morse of Danvers; her three sons, Lawrence Rea of Windham, N.H., Stephen Rea of Topsfield and Brian Rea of W. Peabody; her two brothers, Francis Bucchiere of Saugus and David Bucchiere of Florida; and her sister, Lucille Ventre of New York. She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren, Kari, Jennifer, Heather, Bobbi, Frederick, Gregory, Jeffrey, Bayley, Ashley, Lyle, Neil, Ella, Emilia and Clara; and her 17 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her two brothers, Roy Bucchiere and John Bucchiere

Service information: Her funeral will be held from the McDONALD Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield, on Friday at 9 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, corner of Grove and Salem streets, Lynnfield, at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Lynnfield. BILLERICA — Mrs. Dorothy M. “Dottie” (Guilmain) Brown, age 81 of Billerica, died peacefully on Sunday February 9, 2020 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers. She was the wife of the late Edward A. Brown. Born and raised in Lynn, Dottie was the daughter of the late Alfred and Dorothy (Forsythe) Guilmain. She attended Lynn Schools and was a graduate of Lynn English High School, class of 1956. Dottie had lived in Lynn for her entire life until moving to Billerica in 2006.

She had worked for many years as an Accounts Payable Clerk at the former RIS Company in Woburn.

Dottie was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who loved to spend time with her family. She also was a crafter who especially enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and quilting. She was a member of the Community Congregational Church in Billerica and a former longtime member of the former Maple Street United Methodist Church in Lynn, as well as a former member of the Emblem Club.

She loved camping, traveling to the Midwest to visit her brother in Wyoming numerous times, and Wii bowling and golf.

Dottie is survived by three children; Denise Walsh and her husband Brian of Billerica, Lisa Clement and her husband Donald of Sandown, NH, and Edward Brown of Chelmsford, 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, a brother Alfred Guilmain of Cody, Wyoming, 2 sisters Lillian Trecartin of Danvers, and Carol Mahar of Lynn, and many nieces and nephews. Dottie was predeceased by her daughter and son-in-law Kim and Tom Bowdren.

Edward C. “Robbie” Robinson, 83

PEABODY — Edward C. “Robbie” Robinson, 83, of Peabody, formerly of Manchester-by-the-Sea, passed peacefully, February 11th at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Eileen J. (Wilczynski) Robinson with whom he shared over 50 years of marriage.

Born in Beverly, he was the son of the late Clayton and Stella (Tomaszewski) Robinson. He was raised and educated in Manchester-by-the-Sea and was a graduate of Story High School, class of 1954.

Following his graduation from high school, he enlisted with the United States Army, served during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1957.

Upon his discharge from the military, Robbie attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst and received his degree in Mathematics in 1962. He then embarked on a 30-year career as a Mathematician at the Air Force Research Laboratories at Hanscom A.F. Base, retiring in 1997.

Robbie enjoyed playing baseball as a pitcher on the Manchester Town Teams, at UMass Amherst, and the annual Peabody Old Timers game held on Labor Day every year at Emerson Park. Robbie was a Peabody Little League Coach for the Orioles in the 1970’s and 80’s including the Babe Ruth league. He was a big fan of all Boston’s Professional sports teams, the Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics, and Bruins and was a Patriots Season Ticket Holder since 1961.

Besides his loving wife, he is survived by his sons, Mark Robinson of Peabody, Todd Robinson and his wife Christine of Lynn, his daughter, Kimberly Scimemi of Peabody, his beloved granddaughter Chantal Scimemi, grandson, Joseph Scimemi Jr., his girlfriend Samantha Quigley of Danvers, and, his great grandchildren, Nevaeh and Alan Joseph. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, William Robinson.

Service Information: Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, followed by his Funeral Service at the funeral home at 12:00 PM to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. READING — formerly of Florida – Mrs. Renee E. (Beaudet) Mithen, age 39, died suddenly from cardiac arrest at Lawrence General Hospital on Monday, February 10th. She was the loving wife of Daniel Mithen with whom she shared 5 years of marriage.

Born in Salem and a longtime resident of Saugus, Renee was the daughter of Kathleen (Burns) Ravagno and her husband James of Saugus and Mark Beaudet and his wife Maureen of Ipswich. She was a member of the Saugus High Class of 1998 and a graduate of Regis College of Nursing. She worked at Fresenius Kidney Care Dialysis Center in Methuen as an RN.

In addition to her husband and parents, Renee is survived by her son, Cian Walter Mithen of Reading; one sister, Meridith Doyle and her husband Lenny of Saugus; one brother, Craig Beaudet and his wife Caitlin of Saugus; her mother-in-law, Katherine Ericsson of FL. She was also Auntie Bini to Magnolia and Blake.

PEABODY — Marie R. Marchese, 81, a Peabody resident for over 50 years, passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon surrounded by her family, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, following a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Alexander Marchese.

Marie was born in Lynn, MA, on September 12, 1938, daughter of the late Neil and Rose (Foglietta) Beaton. She was raised and educated in Lynn, attending St. Mary’s school, from Elementary up until High School.

Prior to her retirement, owned her own bridal shop in Lynnfield, then going on to work as a clerk for the Registry of Deeds in Salem. She was very devoted to her faith, being an active parishioner at St. Adelaide’s Church in Peabody. Most importantly, she loved being surrounded by her loving family, especially her grandchildren. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Danny Marchese & his wife Barbara of Peabody, Donna Llukan & her husband Al of FL, Deborah Connolly & her husband Michael of Danvers, Darlene Languriand & her husband Brian of NH; her grandchildren and their spouses, Amanda & Scott Jolly, Alex Llukan, Andy & Melanie Llukan, Michael Eng, Derek & Stephanie Llukan, Danny Marchese, Jr. & Jessica, Ashley & Matt Canavan, Justin & Elyse Languirand, Cassandra Eng; 8 great-grandchildren; 9 siblings, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was predeceased by her brother William Beaton.

SWAMPSCOTT — Mr. Joseph Leo Donlon, 80, of Swampscott, passed away on February 12, 2020 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House surrounded by his loving family after a long illness.

Born in Lynn, Leo was the son of the late Edward R. and Marie L. (Bois) Donlon.

He was raised and educated in Lynn. He enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War.

Prior to his retirement, Leo was employed as a manager for Dalton Shoe for over 35 years.

He enjoyed playing cards and teaching his grandchildren to play cards as well as playing pool, traveling and spending time with his family and friends.

Leo is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Patricia (Cataldi) Donlon; two daughters, Lisa Boissoneau of Danville, NH and Anita Swanton and her husband Richard of Peabody. He was the loving grandfather of Joseph and Thomas Swanton. He was predeceased by his sister, M. Joan Stone and his son-in-law, Christopher Boissoneau.

LYNN — Mrs. Ethel A. (Clayton) Collins, 93, a longtime resident of Lynn, passed away on Friday, Feb. 14, 2020. She was the beloved wife of the late William J. Collins.

Born on July 21, 1926 in Sumter, S.C., she was the cherished daughter to the late James R. Sr. and Sarah (Flud) Clayton. Gussie, as she was affectionately known, was a graduate of Edmunds High School in Sumter, S.C., and later continued her education at Burdett College in Lynn. She married the love of her life, William J. Collins, on April 30, 1945. The couple spent more than 70 years in marriage together raising and caring for their family.

Gussie held a number of administrative positions in banking and business. She worked at the GTE Sylvania Corporation as an executive secretary until she retired in 1988. In addition to her professional life, Gussie was a devoted volunteer at Union Hospital, a past Prefect of the Sodality of Our Lady of the Assumption parish in Lynnfield and a member of the Massachusetts Catholic Women’s Guild. She was also an active member of the GTE Sylvania Retirement Group. She had a love for cooking, gardening, golf, and traveling to Florida and Hilton Head, S.C. Her greatest passion of all was painting, which she perfected over the past 40 years.

Gussie is survived by her loving children, Steven J. Collins and his wife, Jodee (Fenton) of Seattle, Wash., William T. Collins and his wife, Kathleen (Curtis) of Lynn, and Marsha Collins and her husband, Paul Borgman of Gloucester; her cherished brother, Lester Flud Clayton of Florida; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Gussie is predeceased by her brother J. R. Clayton Jr.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the professional and caring staff of Life Care of the North Shore where Gussie spent the last five years, and to Pauline Morgan and Charlene Smith who cared for her at home for many years. These caregivers truly became extended family to whom the Collins family will always be grateful.

LYNN — Jean Diana (Vigliotta) O’Brien, 87, of Lynn, died Friday afternoon surrounded by her loving family at the Brudnick Center for Living in Peabody following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Robert J. O’Brien.

Born in Revere, she was the daughter of the late Gennaro and Mary (Christallo) Vigliotta. She was a lifelong resident of Lynn and a graduate of Lynn Classical High School.

Jean dedicated her life to her family and raised three beautiful children. After her children were grown, she worked at Randy’s Department Store for many years. She enjoyed bowling, Bocci, was an avid Red Sox fan, and she especially enjoyed traveling to Atlantic City as well. 

Jean is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Brad Smith of Peabody and Debra and Jack Barry of Lynn; her brother-in-law, Fred Rappa of Revere; her beloved seven grandchildren, Deborah Smith, Michelle Smith, Melissa Brunet, Meghan Surprise, Jenna Smith, Courtney O’Brien and Kelly O’Brien; and is also survived by nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband Robert, she was predeceased by her son Robert J. O’Brien, Jr, her siblings, Gennaro, Patrick “Sonny” and Robert A. Vigliotta, Rita Rappa, Ida Durant, Lena Serino, Ann Rappa, Mary Noyer and Evelyn McDermott.
