LYNN — Charles C. Yanakakis (aka ‘CC Yanakakis’), age 62, passed peacefully on February 1st at Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers after suffering a massive stroke. He was the son of the late Kary and Theodora Yanakakis and brother of the late Paul W. Yanakakis, all of Lynn. CC’s survived by his cherished wife, Ada (Starbard, Coates) Yanakakis, his loving sister Maria Weeks and her children, Zachary & Rebecca, and nephew, Nicholas Yanakakis.

He also leaves his loving stepchildren, Scott Coates, wife Nicole; Tamara McGathy, children Andrew and Jasmine, and Tammy’s husband Marvin, who predeceased him; several brothers/sisters-in-law and their children from his wife’s family, the Starbards; his Aunt, Mary Yanakakis, many cousins, and friends. CC joins relatives who’ve gone before him from the Soundis, Kyrios, Yanakakis, Vlahos, Cassell, and Sabanty families.

Those who were witness to CC’s ‘big’ personality, accepted him for who he was and loved him anyway. The many challenges he endured during this life were often attributed to a childhood accident and brain injury, but that just made CC ‘who he was’ – an extremely talented, unique, loving, kind, and generous soul. He graduated from Lynn Classical High School, class of 1977 and was a member of the Swim Team, Chorus, the ‘8 O’Clockers’ choral group, and performed in musicals. In his youth he was an active member of DeMolay and worked in the family business, Franklin Fruit Co.

A self-taught musician who played guitar and other instruments, CC applied his love of music to good work, performing in hospitals, nursing homes, VA hospitals, adult day & special needs programs, at community events, fairs, and farmers markets where he would entertain all ages. In later years when his fingers didn’t work as well, he continued to share his gift with sing alongs via karaoke.

His family thanks the emergency, medical, and mental health professionals who helped CC along the way and is grateful to the staff and volunteers of Care Dimensions/Kaplan House Hospice for their resourcefulness, kindness, and unparalleled compassionate care of our beloved CC.

Service information: As per CC’s wishes there will be no funeral or burial. Family and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 from 4-7PM in the SOLIMINE Funeral Home, 426 Broadway (Route 129), Lynn, with a celebration of his life to be held at 6:30PM.
