Theresa M. (Penni) Alexander passed away peacefully on Friday, Jan. 11, 2019 at the age of 93.

Theresa was born on April 8, 1925 to Samuel O. Penni Sr. and Francoise Breau Penni. She was a lifelong resident of Marblehead. She graduated from Marblehead High School in 1942.

After graduating she assisted her family in running a number of the Penni businesses, including the supermarket ‘Penni’s’, as well as the development of adjacent real estate. She later joined Personnel Relations Associates, a consulting practice founded by her second husband, Paul Alexander. After Mr. Alexander’s passing, she founded, with her brother Bill, The Muffin Shop, which continues to this day on Washington Street in old town Marblehead. She also worked with Jeanette Andrews at Andrews and Associates. A consistent theme in everything that she did was the great pride and enjoyment she took in doing whatever she could to make a situation or experience better for her involvement.

Theresa enjoyed taking long walks through old town, by the beaches or around Marblehead Neck (anyone who could keep up with her was welcome and encouraged to join although it was not for the faint of heart). She traveled to Europe and Asia and made friends wherever she went.

But as much joy as she took from these activities, Theresa lived for her family. She was never happier than when sharing time with children or grandchildren. She is survived by her sons, William Cruger Jr. and wife Angela of New York, Christopher Cruger and wife Betsy of Swampscott, David Alexander and wife Dianne of Winchendon, Duane Alexander and wife Suzanne of Salem, and John Alexander and wife Gail of Beverly. She is also survived by grandchildren, Will and Emalie Cruger of Swampscott, Degelis Tufts of New York and Elyse Tufts of Marblehead. Two of her siblings, Joe Penni of Boxford, and Anne Penni Cox of Marblehead, her loving nephew, Joe Darci of Marblehead, amongst other nieces and nephews who fondly referred to her as Aunt Toni. Theresa was predeceased by her second husband, Paul Alexander, in 1982. In her latter years she was blessed to have had the tender and loving care of so many people, including but by no means limited to Amani, Olivia, Youm, Gertha, Wendy, Rhoda, and Kim.

Service information: A funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 85 Atlantic Ave., Marblehead, on Friday, Jan. 18 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Make A Wish Foundation (wish.org). Arrangements by EUSTIS AND CORNELL of Marblehead. To share a memory of Theresa or to offer a condolence to her family please visit www.eustisandcornellfuneralhome.com.

LAWRENCE — William E. Johnson, age 60, of Lawrence, passed away unexpectedly on Nov. 1, 2018. The cause of death is still pending.

Born in Lynn, he had lived in various towns on the North Shore. Billy was the loving son of Marian K. (Richardson) Johnson of Lynn, and the late William D. Johnson Jr. He was the brother of Debora S. Johnson and the late Patricia A. Johnson, both of whom referred to him as “Buff;” as well as his cousins and friends.

He worked in construction, plowed snow for the City of Lynn, private customers, and his mother’s property. Billy was once a member of the Saugus River Yacht Club. He struggled to proudly achieve his goal of owning his own construction business, “Johnson Home Improvement.” Billy was an extremely hard worker, taking on difficult jobs, and a humorous true friend.

He loved cars, trucks, motorcycles and boats, but constantly repairing them caused frustrations. Billy enjoyed “The Three Stooges,” black jelly beans and his mother and sister Debbie’s deviled eggs. A six-foot, confident giant with a loving heart, he was tough around the edges but tender in the middle. His mother will sadly miss his fun messages “It’s your ‘Baby Boy.’” With love, hugs, kisses and broken hearts we say farewell to Billy till we meet again. Butterflies carried him into the arms of his Guardian Angel to fly peacefully with his sister Patti.

Service information: His memorial visitation will be held on Saturday from 2-4 p.m. in the SOLIMINE Funeral Home, 426 Broadway (Route 129), Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. In lieu of flowers, show your remembrance of Billy by “Paying it forward” with love and caring deeds. Directions and guestbook at www.solimine.com.

Deborah N. Perruzzi, 84, wife of the late Richard Perruzzi of Gloucester passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Friday, Jan. 11, 2019 at Addison Gilbert Hospital.

She was born in Lynn on Sept. 29, 1934, daughter of the late George W. Nute and Reitha (Whitehead) Nute. Debbie was a graduate of Lynn English High School.

After graduating she worked in Boston in the banking field then at Salem Hospital in administration, after moving from Peabody to Gloucester in 1972 she helped found PMS with her husband and was the office manager until her retirement.

She loved telling stories of her childhood growing up in Lynn during the depression; her youth spent at summer camp and her teenage years as a camp counselor. She was an accomplished swimmer and diver having excelled at the sport and was on track to go to the Olympic Games until a diving injury ended her hopes.

She delighted in reliving her days as a teenager working at Liggets drugstore where she met the love of her life, Dick. They married on March 24, 1956 and were inseparable until his passing in July 2018, which broke her heart.

She enjoyed traveling to her favorite gambling spot, Mohegan Sun, with her husband and daughter and Saturday morning breakfasts with her family at Lobsta Land and Lees as well as Friday lunch at the Pilot House.

She cherished family vacations to Disney World and weekend trips to Maine to visit cousins Bob and Barbara Perruzzi.

Blessed with the gift of gab she would talk to anyone, anywhere, anytime about anything. Dick often joked she could talk the white off rice! She loved talking politics and would strike up a debate or discussion with anyone — prompting her family to lightheartedly invoke the “no politics rule.” She was adamant about voting every election and insisted on going as early as possible to the polls.

She took great joy in her husband’s passion for exotic cars and particularly liked being driven in his Bentley likening herself to Ms. Daisy.

Affectionately dubbed “Mema” by her grandson Sam it was a moniker that would stick and soon she was everyone’s Mema. She was enormously proud of her grandsons who she affectionately referred to as “my boys” and took great pleasure in watching them play football, basketball and baseball. She was an accomplished woman of many talents. Everyone’s life was touched and brightened by Mema, her compassion, kindness, generosity, sense of humor and zest for life will be greatly missed by her loving family and many friends.

Deborah is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Favaloro and her husband Sam (her favorite son-in-law) of Gloucester; sons, Scott Perruzzi and his wife Debra and Dayne Perruzzi, all of Gloucester; four grandchildren, Sam Favaloro, Tyler Favaloro, Andrew (Aj) Perruzzi and Marae Perruzzi; great-granddaughter, Arielle Richardson; step-granddaughters, Brianna and Nicole Gerrior; step grandson, Chase Lakeman; her brother-in-law, Ken Perruzzi and his wife Shirley of South Carolina, and nephew, Roy Perruzzi of Connecticut, “second daughter” Robin Briand, grand puppies, Sydney, Molly, Lola, Penny, Toby and Georgie, as well as many nieces, nephew, cousins and friends. Predeceased by her parents, and mother and father-in-law, Carmen and Esther Perruzzi, brother David W. Nute, special niece Dale Perruzzi, nephew Ronnie Nute, uncle Charles Nute and wife Gertrude, aunt Louise Parkhurst and uncle John Whitehead and wife Louise, as well as step-grandson, Stephen Gerrior, USMC.

Service information: In keeping with her wishes, there will be no funeral services. A Celebration of Life will be held on March 24 at Cruiseport Gloucester from 12-3 p.m. Friends and family are invited to attend.
