PEABODY — Donald P. Bansfield of Peabody, formerly a lifelong resident of Lynn, passed away Sunday, Aug. 14, 2016 in the Salem Hospital in Salem, he was 86.
Born in Lynn on Dec. 22, 1929, he was the son of the late Redmond and Ruby (McMahon) Bansfield. Don was raised and educated in Lynn and was a graduate of St. Mary’s Boys High School in Lynn. Don was married to the late Marion F. (Moore), whom he shared 48 years in marriage together until her passing on May 15, 1997.
Don was employed for over 30 years as a typographer for the Lynn Daily Item. He worked before that at the Boston Post, Lynn Telegram and the Lynn Sunday Post.
Don was a member of the ITU/CWA Union as well as a longtime member of the Salem Moose. In his later retired years, Don was quite the world traveler. He was fortunate enough to visit the likes of Spain, Ireland, England, Bermuda, Canada and Alaska, just to name a few.
Don is survived by his children, Donald Bansfield Jr. and his wife Sheryl of New Durham, N.H., George Bansfield and his wife Shari of Oxford and Debra Caswell and her husband Alexander of Peabody; his grandchildren, Shannon, Erinn, Loren, Christopher, Keith, Courtney, Jason and Jodi, his great-grandchildren, Davianna and Bella Vasconcelos, William and Sean Stevens, Jack, Riley and Kate Gilmore, Nora and Connor Malilay and Brendan, Catelyn and Ryan Bansfield; his siblings, James and his wife Carol of Middleton, Ronald Bansfield of Michigan, Daniel Bansfield of New Hampshire, Carole Harding of Amesbury, Ruth Scopa of Bridgewater, Elizabeth Arena of Lynn, and sister-in-law Florence Bansfield, as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Don was preceded in death by his brothers Richard, Thomas and Bruce Bansfield.
Service information: A funeral service will be held in the CUFFE-MCGINN Funeral Home, 157 Maple St., Lynn, on Friday, Aug. 19, 2016 at 11 a.m. Burial will immediately follow in the Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
