LYNN — Gene Giardina, age 77, of Lynn, died on Friday, Feb. 28, 2020, at North Shore Medical Center, Salem Hospital following a brief illness. He was the loving and devoted husband of Janice (Warner) Giardina, with whom he shared more than 52 years of marriage.
Born in Boston in 1943, Gene was the son of the late Angelo and Frances (Malta) Giardina. He was raised and educated in East Boston and graduated from East Boston High School in 1960.
Following graduation, he joined the Army National Guard. Gene worked at Massachusetts Eye and Ear for more than 25 years and later worked as a maintenance mechanic for North Shore Community College, until his retirement. He was a talented metal fabricator, creating sundials, wind chimes and many other decorative pieces at home. He was an excellent cook and loved gardening. In earlier years, he enjoyed camping with his family and for the past 10 years, he and Janice split time between their home in Lynn and their condo in Fort Myers, Fla. His greatest love was spending time with his family, especially with his beloved children and grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Janice, Gene is survived by his son, Mark Giardina and his wife Tara of Reading; and his daughter, Erica Giardina of Salem; his grandchildren, Max, Tad, Laz and Emery; his sister, Teresa Moran of East Boston; his sisters-in-law, Linda Genualdo, Sandra Warner and Shirley Giardina; and his many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Eddie Giardina.
Service information: A funeral will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 in the SOLIMINE Funeral Home, 426 Broadway (Route 129), Lynn, at 9:30 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass in St. Pius V Church, Lynn, at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
