Catherine F. Franey, 97

LYNN — Mrs. Catherine F.  (Hughes) Franey, 97 years, formerly of Lynn, died on Friday, May 31, 2019 in a local nursing home after a brief illness.

She was born in Boston, the daughter of the late James and Mary (Carey) Hughes. She was raised in Malden and was a graduate of Malden High School. She lived in Malden, Lynn and Peabody.

She was employed as a secretary at the General Electric Company in Lynn for 15 years, retiring in 1984. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She loved music, dancing and reading. She loved traveling and spending time with her siblings.  Most of all, she enjoyed her family and her grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons and daughters, Patricia Butler and her husband Ernest of Salem, N.H., William Franey Jr. and his wife June of Billerica, Michael Franey and his wife  Marie of Boxborough, Paul Franey of Waltham, Nancy Savage and her husband Anthony of Malden, Kevin Franey and his wife Wendy of Peabody; her sister, Cecilia Alexander of Groveland; a sister-in-law, Eileen Hughes of Peabody; she leaves 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  She is the former wife of the late William F. Franey Sr. and sister of the late Mary Harrington, James and Thomas Hughes.

Service information: Her funeral will be held on Friday, June 7, 2019 at 8 a.m. from the SOLIMINE Funeral Home, 426 Broadway (Route 129), Lynn, followed by a funeral Mass in St. Pius V Church, Lynn, at 9 a.m. Burial in Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. Directions and guestbook at www.solimine.com.
