PEABODY — Timothy F. Cullinane Sr., age 80, of Peabody, passed away on Saturday at the Kaplan Family Hospice House. He was the husband of Sabina Ann (Mulvihill) Cullinane, with whom she shared 50 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Lynn, he was the son of the late Daniel and Nora (Driscoll) Cullinane. He attended Sacred Heart School, St. John’s Prep, and was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School, Class of 1956. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Boston University in 1967, and also completed courses toward his master’s degree at Northeastern University.
Tim worked in the Charlestown Navy Yard from 1961-1967. He then worked as an electrical engineer for Photon, Inc., Dymo Graphic Systems, Itek Composition Systems, Compugraphic Corporation, and Iris Graphics. He also founded his own company, United Analytical Instruments, which he ran for more than 20 years. In addition, Tim held several U.S. electrical patents.
Tim was a devout Catholic, and served as an altar boy at Sacred Heart Church in his youth. Tim loved sports; especially hockey, which he played in high school and college, and tennis which he played avidly for many decades. He was a member of the Northeast Tennis Club. Tim was extremely proud of his Irish heritage. He was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Div. 10 in Lynn. Tim was a brilliant man who loved history and to recite poems. He loved nature, and in his spare time, enjoyed camping with his family and growing exotic roses. Tim will be best remembered for his intelligence, humor, honesty, and storytelling.
In addition to his wife, Tim is survived by two sons, Timothy Cullinane Jr. and his wife Melanie of Boxford, and James Cullinane of Lynnfield; one daughter, Erin (Cullinane) Matica and her husband Daniel of Worthington; his grandchildren, Emily Cullinane, William, Paul, Anne, Sam and Hannah Matica, and Liam and Cara Cullinane; his brother, Daniel Cullinane Jr. and his wife Terry of Topsfield; his sister, Mary (Cullinane) Katin and her husband Richard of Lynn; as well as several nephews and nieces. He was the father of the late MSG Sean Liam Cullinane, U.S. Army National Guard and brother of the late Bartholomew “John” Cullinane.
Service information: His funeral will be held on Friday at 9:30 a.m. from the SOLIMINE Funeral Home, 426 Broadway (Route 129), Lynn, followed by a funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Lynn, at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
