BEVERLY — Mr. Joseph L. Dupont Jr., of Beverly, died Friday on his 77th birthday in Beverly Hospital, surrounded by his loving family after a prolonged illness. He was the husband of Mary-Lark B. (Kindler) Dupont, with whom he shared 47 years of marriage.
Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Joseph L. and Ruth E. (Wein) Dupont. He was raised on Richardson Road in Lynn, and had lived in Beverly for the past 45 years.
Joseph was a graduate of Lynn English High School, Class of 1959, and received his associates degree from the Stockbridge School of Agriculture at UMass Amherst in 1961. He also studied landscape architecture at Kansas State University.
Joseph was a longtime employee in the engineering department of the County of Essex, and was also owner of a Mail Boxes Etc. store in Danvers. He was a former board member of the Alumni Association at the Stockbridge School of Agriculture, and was also the former union president of the local AFSCME chapter. In his younger years, he enjoyed tennis, hiking, fishing, and all things outdoors. He was an avid Boston sports fan who also rooted for Kansas State men’s basketball. He was also a voracious reader and history buff. Joseph was a self-proclaimed winner of many arguments, but regardless he was loved by all.
In addition to his wife, Lark, he is survived by two children, Melissa Dupont and her fiancé Jeffery Distin of New Baltimore, N.Y., and Jay Dupont of Clinton; his sister, Diane Swimm and her husband Donald of Lynnfield; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Eleanor Dupont.
