Marjorie Taylor (DeLano) Towers is the third child of Willis and Carrie DeLano. Born Nov. 25, 1922, in Chelsea, she graduated from Chelsea High School in 1940 and Burdett College in 1942. She married Ernest Towers on Jan 1, 1943. They had two children; Joanne Christine Towers and Betty Louise Towers. She traveled for several years with her husband, Ernest J. Towers, who was in the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lt., serving in various defense positions in the U.S. and Canada.
Marjorie is an 11th generation DeLano. A direct descendant from Phillippe De La Noye who arrived in Plymouth, Mass., on Nov. 11, 1621, aboard the ship “Fortune.” He became a man of influence in the early colony and later became one of the early settlers of the town of Duxbury. He lived across the road from John Alden and his son Thomas married Rebecca Alden in 1667. It is from this line that Marjorie’s family originated. She and her family enjoyed many yearly reunions in the New England Region.
A homemaker for many years, she returned to the workplace in 1964 and retired in 1984 as payroll supervisor for Sears Roebuck Co. in Saugus. In 1986 when Ernest retired they moved to South Yarmouth, Mass., and West Yarmouth and lived on the Cape for 26 years.
She was a life member and Past Worthy Matron of Ruth Chapter O.E.S. She was an avid gardener in the Garden Club of South Yarmouth. She was involved with many activities in the club and met longtime friends. She also did woodworking carving and painting in her retired life.
In November 2007, Marjorie and Ernest moved to West Newbury to be closer to family and spent four years there. In August 2011, Marjorie moved to the Elizabeth Calsey House in Amesbury and enjoyed her days with the folks at the house. In August 2012, she moved to Country Center for Health and Rehab and resided there for five years.
She was predeceased by her husband Ernest J. Towers on March 16, 2011, after 67 years of marriage. She was also predeceased by her sister Louise Brown, her brother Willis Delano, and her sister-in-law; Sigrid Tillson. She is survived by her daughters; Joanne Boldi and her husband Richard of Amesbury and Betty Welch and her husband William of Lake Oswego, Ore. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Michelle Ault of Newburyport, Jeff Boldi and his wife Laura McCarriston of Plaistow, N.H., Carrie Welch and her wife Jannie Huang of Portland, Ore., and Kaitlin Friedmann and her husband Brian of West Freehold, N.J.; as well as her great-grandsons; Nicolas Ault, Taylor Huang Welch, Jacob and Cameron Friedmann and her niece, Laurie Scott of Deltona, Fla.
Marjorie’s family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Country Center for Health and Rehab and Constellation Hospice for their tireless efforts to provide comfort and solace to Marjorie and her family during her final days.
Service information: Her memorial service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. in the SOLIMINE Funeral Home, 426 Broadway (Rt. 129), Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Memorial visiting hours are Thursday from 4-8 p.m. Burial will be at a later date.
