Suzanne M. (Drislane) Powell, 58

HAVERHILL – Suzanne M. (Drislane) Powell, age 58, formerly of Salem, NH passed away peacefully at the High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill on May 11, 2021 after a courageous 20-year battle with cancer. Sue was born on June 5, 1962 in Lynn, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of David Drislane, of Lynnfield, and the late Barbara (Daley) Khederian. She was also predeceased by her stepmother, Carol Drislane and stepfather, Oscar Khederian. For many years, Sue worked as a nurse’s aide and later ran her own successful house-cleaning business. Throughout her life, Sue overcame many trials and obstacles to create an enriching life. Sue was outgoing, feisty, tough, and had no problem speaking her mind. At the same time, she was very caring and would be the first person to give you the shirt off her back. Not to mention, she always knew how to crack a good joke and make people laugh. Sue was very giving and spent much of her time making meals and crocheting afghans for those in need. Her strong spirit and ability to laugh at herself was endearing to all who knew her, right up to the end of her life. In addition to her father, David, Sue is survived by her son, Jeremiah Powell and his partner, Victoria; daughter, Susannah Chamberlain and her husband, James; grandson, Kennedy Chamberlain; sister, Cynthia Tighe; brother, William Drislane and his wife, Virginia; sister, Barbara Drislane; brother, David Drislane and his wife, Erin; stepsister, Kelly Fleese and her husband, Kevin; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, and her beloved cat, Emma.

Service Information: A memorial service will take place at the Phaneuf Funeral Home (243 Hanover Street in Manchester, NH) on May 21 from 3:00pm – 5:00pm.

Mary F. (Fruitt) Landry, 100

Lynn – Mrs. Mary F. (Fruitt) Landry, who celebrated her 100th birthday with family and friends on April 7, 2021, died peacefully at her home on Monday May 17, 2021. She was the wife of the late Alphonse Landry and the mother of the late Ronald and Gary Landry.

Born in Greensboro, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Leona Fruitt. She had lived in Lynn for over 80 years.

She had worked for many years as a Nurses Aid in the Maternity Ward at the former Lynn Hospital and also as an operator for New England Telephone many years ago.

Mary was an avid Red Sox Fan and enjoyed keeping stats on the team.

Mary is survived by her niece Debbie Fruitt of Kernersville, NC and a great nephew Wayne Compton and his wife Andrea of Salem, as well as other extended family and friends.

Mary’s family would like to thank the staff of Foxi Private Care for the care and compassion shown to Mary and her family throughout the past year.

Service Information: A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at 1:00PM in the Solimine Funeral Home 426 Broadway (RTE129), Lynn. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Helen T. Hughes, 91

Peabody – Helen T. (Hayden) Hughes 91, beloved wife of sixty-five years to the late James Edmund Hughes Jr., died Monday, May 17, 2021.

Born and raised in Lynn, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Nellie (Lewis) Hayden. She received her education in the Lynn school system and graduated from Lynn Classical High School.

As a young woman, Mrs. Hughes had been employed by the General Electric Company in Lynn. Following her marriage, she dedicated her life to raising her family in Peabody where she had resided for sixty five years.  She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend who will be missed by all who knew her.

Surviving her are two daughters, Robin Quirk and her husband, Frank of Peabody and Donna Ruccolo of Topsfield, a son, Jim Hughes and his wife, Sue of Peabody, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was also the sister of the late Edward Hayden of Lynn.

Words cannot express the gratitude her family feels for the love and caring shown to Helen by the staff at the Lynn Home.

Eileen Alanna Linton, 86

Peabody – Eileen Alanna (Lister) Linton, AND deN, age 86, of Peabody, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side.  She was the beloved wife of the late John “Jack” A. Linton, Sr.  Raised in Lawrence, she was the daughter of the late C. Howard and Adrienne (Godin) Lister.  She was a graduate of Lawrence High School, class of 1953, and also attended Merrimack College.  Eileen Alanna worked at her father’s gas station, “Lister’s Texaco” as a mechanic along with her brothers for many years.  When working for New England Telephone Company, she met the love of her life who worked for Western Union.  They enjoyed Square Dancing with the Lancers of Salem.  In addition to raising 7 children, for 11 years, Alanna worked at St. John’s School in Peabody as Administrative Assistant and at Linden Meyer Munroe until her retirement.  Her Roman Catholic Religion was a cornerstone of her life and built many friendships.  She was a woman of great faith and was an Associate of Notre Dame.  In the early 1970’s, she supported the first Spanish Speaking Mass at St. John’s Church.  For many years, she has been a member of St. Ann’s Church in Peabody.   Eileen Alanna was the mother of eight, including infant Mary, who passed in 1959 and is survived by her children, John A. “Jax” Linton Jr. of Peabody, Geraldine “Geri” and her husband Joseph Meaney of Lynn, Paul Linton of New Hampshire, Patrick Linton of New Mexico, Christopher “CJ” Linton and his wife Theresa of Virginia, Adrienne Linton of Peabody and Monica Corriveau and her fiancé Ron Howard of Methuen, 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored, 2 cousins, Ann Cameron and Ruth Mahon, 2 sisters in law, Nancy Lister and Claire Linton, many nieces, nephews, her doggy Daisey-Mae and many friends.   She was the sister of the late C. Howard Lister Jr. and twins Robert M. and Richard V. Lister.

Service Information: A funeral Mass will be held in St. Ann’s Church, 136 Lynn Street, Peabody on Monday at 11:00 a.m.  Relatives and friends respectfully invited.  Visitation is Sunday, 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Goodrich Funeral Home, 128 Washington Street, Lynn.  In lieu of flowers and the preference of Eileen Alanna, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.  For complete obituary or to send a message, kindly visit www.goodrichfuneralhome.com

Joseph P. “Pat” Sullivan, 64

Ft. Myers, FL – Joseph P. “Pat” Sullivan passed away on February 15, 2021.   He was the son of the late Joseph P. Sullivan, Sr.   He leaves his mother, Dorothy (Acheson) of Florida, sisters Catherine Richard of Lynn, Julie Sullivan of Florida, and several nieces and nephews.    He graduated from Lynn Trade School and worked as an auto mechanic for forty years.     He enjoyed playing hockey with his friends well into his 40’s.

Thomas Randele, 73

Lynnfield – Thomas Randele, age 73, of Lynnfield died Tuesday, May 18 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Denver, Colorado on July 10, 1947 he was the son of the late Edward and Ruthabeth (Krueger) Randele.

“Tom” was raised and educated in Colorado before moving to the east coast and attending New England College. Tom then split his time between Florida and Boston, where he was the Assistant Golf Pro and Teaching Pro at Pembroke Country Club. In the off season he played on the professional winter tour in Florida, eventually transitioning to Manager of Pembroke Country Club full time. He eventually shifted his vocational interests from golf to his second love, cars and began a successful career in luxury automotive sales which spanned nearly 40 years. He had worked at Woburn Foreign Motors, Range Rover, and Volvo until his retirement. He was also an excellent cook who loved watching any and all cooking shows, and enjoyed testing out new receipts on his wife and daughter, always asking “So, can I make this again?” at the end of every meal.

Tom leaves behind his beloved wife, Kathy (Mahan) Randele and his cherished daughter, Ashley Randele. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Richard Mahan of Swampscott as well as many extended family members and friends.

Service Information: A memorial service for Tom will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Tuesday, May 25 at 11am. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held prior to the service beginning at 10am.

Muriel P. Mynahan, 101

Lynn – Muriel Pearl Mynahan, age 101, passed away on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at Salem Hospital.  She was the beloved wife of the late William (Stan) Mynahan, with whom she had shared 51 wonderful years of marriage.

Born in New Brunswick, Canada on April 12, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Lottye (Hanson) Bell.  Muriel graduated from Lynn Classical High School, and then went on to work as a secretary for General Electric in West Lynn and River Works until her retirement in 1981.

Muriel was an extremely active, fun-loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.  She was an inaugural member of the General Electric Lady’s Golf League at Gannon Municipal Golf Course, as well as an avid bowler, participating in both until her mid-nineties.  She was also a dedicated fan of the Patriots and Red Sox, and enjoyed many a game at Fenway Park over the years.  Above all else though, Muriel loved her family.  The memories she made with her children and grandchildren will live on.

Surviving Muriel are her daughters, Kathleen Davies of Nova Scotia, Maureen Stanton of Seattle, WA, and Christine Grasso and her husband Dominic of Sagamore Beach, MA; her grandchildren, Daren Fiske and Jamie Fiske, Cody Sadler and his wife Kendall, and Callie Sadler, Keri Carducci and her husband Peter, Nicole Grasso and Dominic Grasso; her great-grandchildren, Aubrianna, Cash, and Noa Sadler, and Ema and Bella Fiske.

Muriel was the loving mother of the late Marilyn Fiske.

Arrangements:  Friends and family are invited to call at the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St., Lynn on Sunday, May 23rd from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m.  Her Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, May 24th at 12 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church, Lynn.  Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Lynn.  To leave an online message or condolence, please visit www.cuffemcginn.com.

Berdell Warren, 81

Lynn – Berdell Warren, age 81, beloved wife of sixty-two years of Lloyd Warren Jr., died  on Monday  May 17, 2021 at Salem Hospital in Salem, MA.  Affectionately known to many as “Nana Bert” she was a one of a kind person that opened her heart and home to everyone.

Born on September 8, 1939 in Morrisville, SC she was the daughter of the late Henry and Janie Nesmith.  She moved to Lynn, MA in 1968 and worked as a visiting nurse at All Care for over 20+ years. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend who will be missed dearly by all who knew her. She was a beautiful soul with a fashionable flair. She loved spending time with family, shopping and going to the casino.  She was a long-time member of Zion Baptist Church. The heart and soul of our family knew how to always bring us together as she would always prepare the most amazing meals. Don’t dare ask for the recipe because it was a little bit of this, a little bit of that and a whole lot of love.

Berdell was one of nine siblings and is survived by her two sisters Henrietta Anderson of NJ and Elease Davis of Lynn and her brother Prince Brown of NY; Her sons Jesse Warren, Bunny Warren, Richie Warren and wife Sharon (Wilkie), and her daughter Glendora (Warren) and husband Marcus Turner all of Lynn. She was predeceased by her eldest son Leroy Warren.  She had nine grandchildren (Cassandra Thomas, James Runner III, Justin Day, Jessica Day, Jesse Warren, Jr., Jackie Sullivan, Richie Warren, Jr., Kera Warren, and Brianna Warren) and thirteen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Service Information: There will be two hours of visitation for relatives and friends at Goodrich Funeral Home, 128 Washington Street Lynn, MA 01902 on Monday, May 24th, 2021 from 10:00am – 12:00p.m., followed by a funeral service for family at 12:00 p.m. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery in Lynn.

Thomas G. Gecoya, 79

Saugus – beloved husband of Carol (Stanley) Gecoya died May 20th at the Kaplan Family Hospice, Danvers. Born in Lynn, the son of the late Guy and Elizabeth (Jablonski) Gecoya. Thomas was raised and educated in Lynn, a graduate of Lynn Classical High School Class of 1960. Thomas attended barber school and received his license.  Thomas was a Master Sargent in the United States Army Reserves for six years during the Vietnam War. Thomas also worked at the General Electric Aircraft Division for 17 years as an electronic beam welder. He was also the owner of the McDonough Square Barber Shop for 40 years. Tom was also involved in youth sports and coaching golf at Saugus Middle and High School. He also was an avid golfer his whole life and organized hundreds of tournaments and trips. He enjoyed boating and fishing and became Commodore of the Volunteer Yacht Club. Tom treasured his time with his family and especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Tom never missed his grandchildren’s sporting events.

In addition to his wife Tom is survived by his children Joan DiPesa and her husband Michael, Patti Lennan and her husband Doug all of Saugus, Saugus Police Detective Lt. David Gecoya and his wife Laura of Middleton, his brother Patrick “Pat” Gecoya and his life long companion Linda of Marblehead, his grandchildren Michael DiPesa, Jr., Christina Gentile and her husband Chris, Alex Tayler DiPesa, Dominc DiPesa, Nicolas Lennan, Kyle Lennan, Dominick Gecoya, Daniel Gecoya, his great grandchildren Isabella, Jacob and James DiPesa. He was predeceased by his daughter Deborah Cole.

Service Information: Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral from the Nadworny Funeral Home 798 Western Ave., Lynn Tuesday at 9:00 AM followed by his Mass of Christian burial in St. Pius V Church, Lynn at 10:00 AM. Burial will be private. Visiting hours will be Monday from 3:00PM- 7:00PM. Wilmington – Jozef Cybulko, age 72,  a long-time resident of Wilmington, formerly of Chelsea, passed away on May 21, 2021.  Jozef was the beloved husband of Barbara (Staniul) Cybulko, devoted father of Suzanna Dozier & her husband Jason of Tewksbury, loving “Dzia Dzia” of Bryce and Maksym Dozier, cherished son of the late Wladyslaw and Jadwiga (Trocka) Cybulko, dear brother of Henry Cybulko & his wife Valentina and Tadek Cybulko & his late wife Christina all of Poland.

Service Information: Family and friends will gather for Visiting Hours Hours at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave., (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Thursday, May 27th from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.  A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, May 28th at 11:00 a.m. in St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington.

Gretchen Szczechowicz, 81

NAHANT – Gretchen G. (Wilson) Szczechowicz, 81, of Nahant, died peacefully on July 28, 2020, after a lengthy illness. Born in Middleton, CT to the late Norman and Gertrude (Green) Wilson, Gretchen lived in Nahant for most of her life. She was a graduate of Lynn English High School Class of 1957, and Salem Hospital School of Nursing in 1959. She also attended Boston University and Emmanuel College.

Gretchen worked for over 30 years as a Registered Nurse for Salem State University, retiring in 2000 as the head of Health Services. She also worked part-time as a RN at Family Doctors in Swampscott for over 20 years.

Gretchen spent many years dedicating her time to helping anyone suffering from substance abuse. She provided transportation, support, and friendship to countless people during their recovery. She was a selfless woman who always gave of herself.

Gretchen enjoyed spending time at the beach, and gardening with her late husband Frederick “Skeets” Szczechowicz at their home on Little Nahant. She loved singing; her specialty was leaving Happy Birthday voice mails to her family and friends. Photography was another passion; Gretchen could always be found behind the lens of the finest disposable cameras at all family events. She also loved dogs, especially her golden retriever Buddy. Most importantly, Gretchen loved spending time with her family.

Gretchen is survived by her son Christopher Szczechowicz, step-daughters Patricia Solimine and Donna Thistle, her brother Arthur Wilson and his wife Mary of FL, her loving grandchildren; Michael Solimine, Joel Solimine and his wife Deena, Nicolas Thistle, Tori Thistle, Emma Szczechowicz, Madison Holman, and Lola Mae Glowik, her beloved nieces and nephews; Melissa Wilson-Burke, Trisha Koch, David Wilson, Jonathon Wilson, their spouses and their children. She was predeceased by her husband Fred and her daughter-in-law Abigail Szczechowicz.

Service Information: A private memorial Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday May 27, 2021 at St. Thomas Church Nahant, Followed by public graveside burial in Greenlawn Cemetery Nahant at 10:45 AM.
