SAUGUS — Mrs. Clara E. (O’Connell) Hanson, age 90, died on Thursday, March 17, 2016, surrounded by her family at her home in Saugus. She was the wife of the late Earl M. Hanson.
Born and raised in Malden, Clara was the daughter of the late John and Ellen (Smith) O’Connell. She was a graduate of Malden High School. Mrs. Hanson was a member of the First Congregational Church in Saugus Center, a dedicated church volunteer for the Christian Workshop and also the Saugus Food Pantry.
Devoted mother of Richard C. Hanson and his wife, Christina, of Saugus, Douglas R. Hanson and his wife, Joanne, of N.H., Patricia E. O’Connell and her husband, Thomas, of N.H., Elizabeth A. McCarthy and her husband, Robert, of Saugus, and the late Roger E. Hanson. Beloved grandmother of ten grandchildren, Charles Hanson of Wakefield, Gregory Hanson and his fiancée, Brianne Cadieux, of Leominster, Matthew Hanson and his wife, Alexa, of N.H., Christopher Hanson and his wife, Taury, of N.H., Shaun O’Connell of N.H., Nina Rusnock and her husband, Brett, of Pa., Colleen O’Connell of N.H., Robert, Erinne and Kerri McCarthy all of Saugus. Loving great-grandmother of Rowan, Weston and Ava, and Norah. Loving sister of Jean Carroll of Fla., and dear cousin of Maryellen Zokas of Mich., also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
