Kenneth B. Whincup, 84

PEABODYKenneth B. Whincup, 84, passed away on November 20, 2016 after a brief illness. Son of the late Frederick and Janet Whincup, he was born in Boston and grew up in Lynn. He married and raised his family in Peabody, with his late wife of 50 years, Ann. He was skilled in all the trades and graduated from Lynn Vocational High School. He attained the rank of SSgt in the Air Force during the Korean War, and served state side at Wurtsmith Air Force Base in Michigan as a cold climate aircraft mechanic. He was honorably discharged from USAF and went on to work Champion Lamp/ITT, he later started his own business as a carpenter and builder. He managed Beden Hardware for several years and was the property manager at the Littlefield building in Lynn until he retired. He was a long time member of the South Congregational Church in Peabody and for several years was a youth group advisor.

He is survived by his children, Kenny, Karen, Kathy and her husband, Arno. He is also survived by his grandchildren Kayleigh and Kameron; Sisters-in-law, Leona Whincup and Elizabeth Hayford; and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his wife, his brothers Ronald and Frederick, and a nephew, Ronnie.

Service information: A private funeral was held and there will be no viewing hours or memorial service.

He will be greatly missed by the big box hardware stores and a grandson who proudly proclaims when anything was broken, “Grampie fix it.”
