COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Ernest R. Doane (Skip), 78, of Colorado Springs, Colo., passed away peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 10, 2016.
He was the son of Ernest M. and Sadie (Kadra) Doane. Skip was born in Lynn on July 30, 1938.
Skip is survived by his wife of 39 years, Dorothy E. Doane, as well as his children, David W. Doane and his wife Diana of Colorado Springs, Colo., Janet L. Gagnon and her husband David of Union, N.H., Richard A. Doane and his wife Lynne of Lynn; step daughter Doreen Ridge and her husband Howard Airhart of Colorado Springs, Colo., and step son Richard Ridge and his wife Marcella of Mechanicsville, Va. He leaves behind five grandchildren, Lindsay Ridge, Nicholas Gagnon, Jessica Gagnon, Andrew Doane and Katherine Doane, as well as many other extended family members.
Skip retired from General Electric in Lynn, where he worked for over 30 years. He was a resilient and strong man who enjoyed fishing and riding his motorcycle, among his many leisure activities. Skip was a licensed Ham Radio operator for over 55 years. His call signal was K1TXU and he was proud of having talked to other Ham Radio operators in over 150 countries. Skip was loved by all and will be dearly missed.
