Helen G. Staffier

NAHANT — With sadness, the family announces the peaceful passing of Helen Gertrude (McGrail) Staffier, formerly of Nahant, at The Bertram House in Swampscott, on Oct. 6, 2016. Dearly loved wife of the late Anthony F. Staffier, daughter of the late Ann Mooney and late Francis McGrail of South Boston. Loving sister of the late Marie Eunson, the late Bernice Dwyer, and the late Claire Fitzgerald. Helen is survived by her two daughters; the Honorable Nancy Staffier Holtz and husband Herbert of Waban, Edith Kenneally of Nahant, and her son, Anthony T. Staffier of Swampscott. She is also survived by her grandchildren Sean Owen Hanlon, Ailey Merrick Mastantuono, Liam Michael Kenneally, Jennifer Merrick Abate, Brian O’Hara Merrick, William Hunter Holtz and Harry Staffier Holtz.

She will be missed by her family, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, as well as her extended Bertram House family. Helen was a graduate of South Boston High and worked for Shell Oil, Liberty Mutual and NYNEX as a supervisor. She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church of Nahant. Helen enjoyed traveling with her sisters and husband “Nat”, walking along the beach and spending time with her grandchildren. From her childhood years in her cherished South Boston, to her years in her beloved Nahant, Helen loved living near the ocean and could never dream of living anywhere else.

Service information: A funeral Mass will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2016, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Arrangements are under the direction of the SOLIMINE Funeral Home, 67 Ocean St. (Rt. 1A), Lynn.
