REVERE — Anthony S. “Tony” Serino, age 81, of Revere, formerly of Lynn, died on Saturday, March 5, 2016, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Agnes (McCarthy) Serino, with whom he shared 53 years of marriage.
Born in Revere, he was the second-youngest of nine children of the late Sabato “Sam” and Lena (Mattola) Serino. He was raised in Lynn and was a graduate of St. Mary’s Boys High School, Class of 1953. He had lived in Lynn until moving to Revere 10 years ago.
Tony was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, serving during the Korean War and traveling the world as an airborne radio operator on the staff of a four star general.
He worked as an air traffic controller at Logan International Airport and other area airports for 36 years until his retirement in 1998. He had served on the Lynn Water and Sewer Commission for many years.
Tony was a devout Catholic and very proud of his Italian heritage, but he was known first and foremost as a passionate family man whose love for his family was the center of his life. Even as a young man, he assumed the role of head of the family following the death of his father. Until his own death, he would be known as the “Patriarch” of his family and was a source of advice and guidance not only to his own children and grandchildren, but also nieces, nephews and family friends. He had tremendous strength of character, and was respected by everyone who knew him. Tony had a warmth about him that even strangers recognized.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Justine Serino-Ahlstrom and her husband, Jason Ahlstrom, of Chicago, Christine King and her husband, Bob, of Salem, Anthony Serino and his wife, Kim, of Bedford, N.H., and Augustin Serino and his wife, Dr. Danielle Ledoux, of Salem, his six grandchildren, whom he adored, Jennifer Serino, Lindsey King, Samuel King, Anthony Serino, Augustin Serino and Sebastian Serino, and his many nieces and nephews.
