MARBLEHEAD – Janice “Jan” Murnane, of Marblehead, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 19, 2021 surrounded by family after a lengthy illness. The daughter of Walter and Helen Gregory, Jan was born on August 30th, 1939 and grew up in Lynn with her younger sister Glenna. After graduating from St. Mary’s High School, Jan began a career as a stewardess with American Airlines – not a flight attendant, as she so often corrected friends – during the golden age of air travel. One day when Jan was not traversing the country, she met her future husband, Doctor Thomas Murnane, through a mutual acquaintance. From that point on, the two of them became a team in every aspect of life. Jan and Tom spent decades travelling the world together for work and pleasure. When they were not working, Jan and Tom enjoyed time with family and friends on their boat, Ah Mais, at the Corinthian Yacht Club in Marblehead or at their vacation home in Naples, FL.
Jan will always be remembered for her sharp intellect, lively personality, and her ability to speak her mind – which certainly kept everyone on their toes!
Jan is pre-deceased by her husband Dr. Thomas W. Murnane and sister Glenna Garinger of Essex. Jan leaves her son Timothy G. Murnane and Tricia of Marblehead; daughter Melissa Murnane Scorzoni and husband Christian of Amesbury; and daughter Tracey E. Murnane of Peabody. Jan, known as “Mimi”, is also survived by five amazing grandchildren Conor Murnane, Owen Murnane, Andrew Scorzoni, William Scorzoni and Olivia Scorzoni.
Service Information: A private family burial will be held at Waterside Cemetery in Marblehead. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Bass River Inc. 437 Essex St, Beverly, MA 01915. Guestbook at www.solimine.com
