NAHANTJohn Patrick Quinn, retired Nahant fire chief, age 91, of Nahant, died at Salem Hospital on Thursday, March 3, 2016. He was the husband of his high school sweetheart and “The Love of His Life” Alicia E. (O’Shea) Quinn, with whom he shared 65 years of marriage.

A proud lifelong resident of Nahant, he was born in Lynn, the son of the late Patrick and Nora (Shea) Quinn. He was a graduate of Lynn English High School, Class of 1943 and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre, earning six battle stars.

A member of the Nahant Fire Department for 39 years, he had served in the ranks as a firefighter, an assistant chief and then as chief of the department from 1967 until his retirement in 1988.

His priorities in life were his family, the fire department, the Town of Nahant and his country. He was also proud of his Irish heritage.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Michael Quinn and his wife Patricia of Chelmsford, Mary Jo Sanborn and her husband Paul of Nahant, John Quinn Jr. of Nahant, Deborah Quinn of New Jersey and Kerry Hatchouel and her husband Carl of Peabody; seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Walter, Andrew and Josephine.

Service information: His funeral will be held on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at 8:45 a.m. from the SOLIMINE Funeral Home, 67 Ocean St. (Route 1A), Lynn, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Nahant. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
