Judith A. Gainley, 78, formerly of Peabody, passed away Sunday morning at the Masconomet Health Care Center in Topsfield, following a lengthy illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Frank J. Gainley, who passed away in 1992.
During their life together, Judy and Frank raised a loving family, took some interesting trips, and fulfilled their dream of vacationing in Europe and Hawaii. Judy’s heart was broken when her husband passed away unexpectedly at the young age of 50. Her children and four granddaughters helped to fill the void from 1992 until her untimely passing on Sunday.
Judy was born in Lynn on Jan. 11, 1942, daughter of the late Andrew and Marie (Landry) Horne. She was raised and educated in Lynn before relocating to Peabody. In addition to lovingly raising her family, Judy had a lengthy career as a food service worker in the Peabody Public school system where she made many friends among her co-workers, the faculty and students. After her retirement, Judy stayed in touch with her friends, attended church services with them, and enjoyed socializing at breakfast after Sunday Mass. She was a communicant of St. Richards Church in Danvers and St. Ann’s Church in Peabody.
Judy is survived by her daughter, Lisa and her husband Thomas F. Dimino of Peabody; her son, Frank J. Gainley Jr. and his wife, Maureen of Burlington; her grandchildren, Tayla, Marlea and Shaylinn Gainley; her brother, Richard Horne and his wife Lillian of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was predeceased by her oldest granddaughter, Briannna Gainley.
Service information: Due to current CDC guidelines, a private burial will be held for immediate family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made in Judith’s memory to an existing UMass Lowell Computer Science Scholarship.
