LYNN — Albert J. “Sonny” Foster Jr., age 87, of Lynn, beloved husband, father and grandfather, died Tuesday at his home surrounded by his loving family from complications of cancer. He was the husband of Helen E. (Follis) Comeau-Foster, with whom he shared 15 years of marriage. He was predeceased by his first wife of 50 years, Marilyn (Appel) Foster.
Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Albert J. Foster Sr. and Anna (Carmody) Foster. He was raised in Lynn and graduated from St. Mary’s High School and Boston College. He received his Master’s Degree from Salem State University.
Al worked for General Electric in Lynn as the manager of the video department until his retirement. He loved classical music, working in his garden and spending time with his family. He was also an avid Boston sports fan. Al enjoyed nothing more than relaxing with his wife, watching the sunset over Sluice Pond.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Robert Foster and his late wife Judith and John Foster and his wife Mary, all of Lynn; his three grandchildren, Anna LaClair and her husband Brian of Wilmington, David Foster and his wife Catherine of Nahant and John Foster and his girlfriend Ally of Salem; four great-grandchildren, Abigail and Evelyn LaClair and David and Daniel Foster; his sister, Lorraine Affannato and her husband Sal of Walyand; his brother-in-law, John Appel and his wife Pat of Branford, Conn.; as well as several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his wife Helen’s six children and their families. He was the father of the late David J. Foster.
Service information: His funeral will be held on Friday at 11:30 a.m. in the SOLIMINE Funeral Home, 426 Broadway (Route 129), Lynn. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
