LYNN — Helen M. (Canavan) West, age 90, of Lynn, died peacefully at her home on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 surrounded by her loving family, following a brief illness. She was the loving and devoted wife of Robert West, with whom she shared more than 62 years of marriage.
Born in Marblehead in 1929, Helen was the daughter of the late Thomas and Isabelle (Roche) Canavan, the youngest of four children. She was raised and educated in Marblehead and graduated valedictorian from Marblehead High School in 1947. She attended Burdett College and worked as a secretary of medical transcripts for Salem Hospital before the birth of her first child. Helen loved traveling, often getting in the car with no final destination in mind and spending March in Florida with her husband for many years. She was an avid reader, enjoyed playing cards, crossword puzzles and spending time with her family.
In addition to her husband Robert, Helen is survived by her daughters, Ann West of Haverhill and Barbara Higginbottom and her husband John of St. George, Vt.; her grandchildren, Travis Ford, Daniel Higginbottom and Abby Higginbottom; and her many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and siblings.
Service information: A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2020 in the SOLIMINE Funeral Home, 426 Broadway (Route 129), Lynn, at 11 a.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Lynn.
