PEABODY — Mary Jane Silvia, affectionately known to many as Jane, 83, of Peabody, passed away Sunday at the NSMC-Salem Hospital, following a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Daniel Silvia.
Jane was born in Lynn on May 1, 1936, daughter of the late John and Mary (Young) Dort. She was raised and educated in Lynn, a graduate of Lynn English High School, Class of 1954. She went on to work for the Dewick & Flanders Insurance Agency in Boston, then went to work for McDonalds on Main Street in Peabody, then for the Sears Roebuck Co. in Peabody.
Prior to her retirement, she had worked in the distribution department of Christian Book Distributors in Peabody. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, roles in which she cherished, and loved every single one of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be missed by all who knew her.
She leaves behind her children and their spouses, Daniel and Joanne Silvia, John and Sharon Silvia, Michael Silvia and his companion, Beth (Call) Nelson, Wayne and Mara Silvia, Linda Silvia; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; her siblings, Joseph Dort and Everett Dort; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her sister, Eleanor “Nellie” Murray, and a brother, Buddy.
Service information: Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, March 12 from 4-8 p.m. at the CONWAY, CAHILL-BRODEUR Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. Her funeral will be held on Friday, March 13, from the funeral at 9 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, 140 Lynn St., in Peabody, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Northeast Arc, 1 Southside Road, Danvers, MA 01923 or to Seven Hills Foundation, 81 Hope Ave., Worcester, MA 01603.
