PEABODY — Philip P. Norris, age 68, of Peabody and formerly of Lynn, died on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2020 at the Kaplan Family Hospice in Danvers, surrounded by his loving family, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was the loving and devoted husband of Joan M. (Hurley) Norris, with whom he shared 48 years of marriage.
Born in Stoneham and raised in Lynn, he was the son of the late Alice (Garrett) and Christopher Russo. He attend Lynn Public Schools and graduated from Lynn Trade in 1968.
Following graduation, Phil enlisted in the Army National Guard. He worked as a firefighter for the City of Lynn for 35 years and was a member of the Lynn Firemen’s Union, Local 739 and the Relief Association. He was the former co-owner of P&B Pest Control and recently worked part time as a custodian at Temple Tiferet Shalom in Peabody.
Phil enjoyed golfing, was an avid reader and was an excellent cook. He enjoyed traveling with his wife Joan and their best friends, often taking trips to Ogunquit, Maine. He loved spending time with his family, especially with his beloved grandchildren who he loved very much.
In addition to his wife Joan, Phil is survived by his children, Brian Norris and his fiancé Melissa Cennami of North Andover, Maureen Reddy and her husband John of Raleigh, N.C., and Kevin Norris and his wife Sandra of Lynn; his grandchildren, Noah, Isabella, Vanessa, Harrison, Holden, Hunter and Jackson; his brothers, David Russo of Stoneham and Ernie Russo and his wife Lil of Brentwood, N.H.; his sisters, Susan Pooley and her husband Stephen of Naples, Fla., Debra Anthony and her husband Lou of Naples, Maine, and Julia Yunker and her husband Rich of Swampscott; his sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Ginny Norris, Janet and Tazi Piracha and Maureen Phaneuf; and his many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother William Norris and brother-in-law Jeff Phaneuf.
Service information: A memorial service will be held on Friday, Jan. 17, 2020 in the SOLIMINE Funeral Home, 426 Broadway (Route 129), Lynn, at 11 a.m. Burial will be in the Firemen’s Lot in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
