BEVERLY — Judith A. (Kelley) Calnan of Beverly died on Monday January 6, 2020 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers after a long illness. She was the beloved wife of Donald J. Calnan for almost 48 years. They would have celebrated their wedding anniversary on January 15.

Judy was born in Lynn on November 19, 1945 and was the daughter of the late Veronica “Bonnie” Kelley and Arthur M. “Mel” Kelley of Lynn and the sister of the late Richard “Dickie” Kelley of Florida.

Judy was a graduate of Lynn English High School and Merrimac College. Judy kept the books for Don’s business, Jerome Electric Co. for over 14 years. After, Judy put her skills to work for non-profits in the Salem/Beverly area that served the needy elderly. She was a strong advocate for elders who needed help in navigating the sometimes- daunting obstacles in applying for assistance for activities of daily living, including healthcare. She loved interfacing with her clients and many remained friends with her through the years.

Judy was an artist who had a deep appreciation of vibrant color and many of her paintings decorate the lovely home where she and Don lived. Their garden reflects Judy’s talent and love of nature. She also loved the beach and the sun, reading for long periods with her feet in the sand.

Don and Judy traveled to Italy where she was impressed with the beautiful historic buildings and the landscapes. They also spent time in Ireland with the Calnan Clan on memorable trips.

In more recent years Judy and Don had health issues to face together. She was his caretaker and later he was hers. Judy fought a valiant battle for the past year against cancer. Many dear friends were there to help her wage her courageous war. Don would like to especially thank Fran, Lindsey, Sue, Barbie, Eddie and Sue and also Judy’s doctors for their love and guidance through this difficult time. Many kind people at Kaplan Hospice helped Don and Judy and their family and they will not be forgotten.
