James M. McCarthy, 73

LITTLETON — James M. McCarthy, age 73, of Littleton, formerly of Lynn, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2020 at the Lifecare of Nashoba Valley after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Kathy (Fraga) McCarthy, with whom he shared 34 years of marriage.

Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Thomas J. and Anna M. (Harrington) McCarthy. He was raised in Charlestown and was a graduate of Cathedral High School in Boston. He had earned an Associate’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and had also attended many certification classes at Northeastern University and Wentworth Institute.

Jim worked as an industrial engineer for many companies, including Damon Corporation, Continental and Higgins Construction, on various large construction projects in the greater Boston area. He most enjoyed working as the safety engineer for the Deer Island Construction Project.

He was a member of ASHREA and NFPA, and was the former fleet captain at the Lynn Yacht Club.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two daughters, Kaitlyn Rocca and her husband Nick, and Molly Stone and her husband Kevin. He leaves behind three grandchildren, Jackson, Logan and Audrey. 

Service information: A funeral service will be held on his birthday, Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2020 at 6:30 p.m. in the SOLIMINE Funeral Home, 426 Broadway (Route 129), Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. Following cremation, burial will be on Thursday at 11 a.m. in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. Family and friends will gather at the main gate of the cemetery at 10:45 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice in his memory.
