Elizabeth “Lisa” (Zeglinski) Laurenza, age 76, passed away Jan. 3, 2020.

She was born June 19, 1943 in Ambridge, Pa., to Charles and Frances (Mazurkiewicz) Zeglinski. She moved to Salem, along with her parents, from California in 1963.

She toiled tirelessly; working two jobs, as a young woman, to help with medical expenses for her mom who’d been paralyzed from a stroke. By night she served Fribbles and original “set-up” burgers, a Big Beef burger between an American grilled cheese with a touch of mayo … a fact she never failed to mention to current-day staff at Friendly’s. By day, she was a stenographer at General Electric River Works in W. Lynn. Employed by the latter as a secretary for 30 years, she retired in 2004.

Despite being 100 percent Polish, she had the Irish gift of gab … often to the dismay of her loved ones. She was a dance enthusiast, excelling in the “jitterbug,” and winning several dance competitions in her heyday. She had a keen eye for home decor and a quirky sense of humor; it was not unusual to see her cha cha her way around the house with a lamp shade on her head. Known to everyone as babci, grandmother in Polish, she loved nothing more than spending time with her beloved granddaughter. Much of her life was devoted to caring for others, often at the peril of her own health. What should have been her “golden years” were lackluster at best; for the last decade she suffered from numerous ailments. May she rest in peace, free from pain. She will forever be missed.

She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Anthony Laurenza; daughter, Carmen; son, Anthony, all of Lynn; as well as grandchildren, Anthony Laurenza and Ava Ludwig. She was the sister of the late Norman Zeglinski.

Service information: Per Elizabeth’s request, services are private. An online guest book is available at www.solimine.com to offer condolences to the family.
