Mary E. Holloway, 94

PEABODY — Mrs. Mary E. (McCarthy) Holloway, 94 years, of Peabody, died in a local nursing home, surrounded by family, on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2019. She was the wife of the late Elsworth E. “Al” Holloway. 

She was born in Lynn, the daughter of the late Daniel J. and Lillie P. (McCormack) McCarthy. She was raised and lived in Lynn most of her life, and was a graduate of Lynn English High School, Class of 1943.

Mrs. Holloway retired as an onsite clerk for the Department of Social Services in their Lynn office. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crosswords and trivia. She was involved and enthused about politics and was a member of the Young Democrats.

She is survived by four children, Thomas E. Holloway of Lynn, James E Holloway and his wife Jan of Lynn, Jane E. Hurton and her husband Philip of Hopkinton, and Peggy A. Holloway of Indiana; grandchildren, Thomas F. of Malden, Sean C. and his wife Lori of California, Brendan P. of East Bridgewater, Jon Holloway and his wife Crystal of Lynn, Patrick Holloway of Pelham, N.H., Siobhan Daley and her husband Scott of Gloucester, Philip Hurton of Hopkinton, Timothy Hurton and his wife Denise of Hopkinton, Ryan Washburn and his wife Bridget of Indiana, and Mark Washburn and his wife Mai of Florida. She also leaves 14 great-grandchildren. She leaves her brothers and sisters, Edmund McCarthy, Daniel McCarthy Jr. and his wife Barbara, Eileen and Patricia McCarthy, all of Lynn. She is the grandmother of the late Jason Hurton, mother-in-law of the late Lori Holloway, and sister of the late Connie Manfras and Joseph Egan. The family would like to thank the staff of Care One in Peabody for their care and compassion. 

Service information: Mrs. Holloway’s funeral will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2019 at 9 a.m. from the SOLIMINE Funeral Home (Route 1A), Lynn, followed by a funeral Mass in St. Pius V. Church, Lynn, at 10 a.m. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
