LYNN — Richard “Dick” Anthony Steeves, of Lynn, formally of Lewiston, Maine, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 10, 2019 at home with his loving family by his side at the age of 65 years old.
Dick was born Dec. 15, 1953 in Derby, Conn., to the late Richard James and Wilma Florence (Swift) Steeves. He was a longtime resident of Lynn and graduated from Essex Agricultural & Technical School with the Class of 1971. Following graduation, Dick answered his nation’s call to service and bravely enlisted in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, where he served in Germany and became an expert marksman and earned himself the National Defense Service Medal.
Following his service, Dick owned and operated his own construction and renovation business, Controlled Systems, Inc. where he worked on projects in Boston, Brookline and the North Shore, and worked for his good friend, Tim Tenney, for 30 years at True Value in Wyoma Square. Known for his great sense of humor and kind spirit, Dick was active in the Boy Scouts of America, a member of the Franco American VFW and was Post Commander of the American Legion in Lewiston, Maine.
Dick leaves behind his dear son, Peter Steeves and his wife, Tricia of Evans, Colo.; his loving sisters, Nancy Steeves-Glidden and her husband, Edward of Lynn, Barbara Casella and her husband, Francis “Buddy” of North Billerica; his cherished brother, Michael Snow and his wife, Lauren of West Yarmouth; his best friends, Bill and Virginia Fletcher of Lynn; and several nieces and nephews.
Service information: Visiting hours will be held in the CUFFE-MCGINN Funeral Home, 157 Maple St., Lynn, on Friday, Nov. 15 from 3-7 p.m., followed by a funeral service on Saturday, Nov. 16 at Cuffe-McGinn at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dick’s name to Disabled American Veterans Massachusetts, State House, Room 546, Boston, MA 02133 or www.davma.org.
