PEABODY — Frederick James Essery, 84, of Peabody, passed away Nov. 5, 2019, surrounded by his family.
He was the son of the late Frederick James and Ruth Gardner (Thornell) Essery of Saugus. Born in Melrose Aug. 7, 1935, the eldest of three siblings, Fred was raised in Saugus and graduated Saugus High, Class of 1953. He proudly served in the National Guard before he was married in 1957.
Fred is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elaine (Timson) Essery, predeceased by a daughter, Judith Lynn Essery. He leaves three children, Wendy Essery of Gardner, Donna Ali of Ipswich, Frederick Essery Jr. of Peabody; four grandchildren, Andrew, Stefanie, Colin MacEachern and Jacob Essery. He leaves two sisters, Gayle (Essery) Bicknell and her husband Robert Bicknell of Lynnfield, Phyllis (Essery) McEachern and her husband Robert of Londonderry, N.H.; several nieces, nephews, cousins and his faithful cat Gertrude.
