SWAMPSCOTT — Mrs. Antoinette “Netta or Ann” C. (Faia) MacGillivray, 86, a lifelong resident of Swampscott, passed away peacefully in her home in Swampscott with her family, on Friday, May 27, 2016.
Born in Swampscott on Feb. 6, 1930, less than 100 feet from where she passed away, Ann was the daughter of the late Generoso and Teresa (Bolino) Faia, and the beloved wife of the late D. Irving MacGillivray of Nova Scotia. Ann was the loving mother of Cheryl Merritt and her husband, Joe Stasio, with whom she made her home in Swampscott, the cherished grandmother of her beloved grandson, Matthew Merritt and his wife, Jessica, the dear sister of Dora Faia of Lynn, formerly of Swampscott, and the late Michael, William, Landy, John, Charles, Eugene and Anna Faia, Lillian D’Agnese, Edythe Gecoy and Jennie Lustri, and the aunt of several nieces and nephews.
Antoinette graduated from Swampscott High School with the Class of 1947. She was employed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a special services assistant for the mentally challenged at the Charles V. Hogan regional Center in Danvers, retiring in 1992 after 22 years of service. She was a longtime member of Holy Family Parish, Lynn. Ann enjoyed spending time with family and friends at her home on Cape Cod. She also enjoyed walking Lynn Shore Drive, reading and politics.
Service information: Ann’s funeral will be held from the CUFFE-MCGINN FUNERAL HOME, 157 Maple St., Lynn, on Wednesday, June 1, at 10 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m., at Holy Family Church, 26 Bessom St., Lynn. Interment will follow in Swampscott Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Tuesday, May 31, from 4-7 p.m., in the funeral home.
