Joseph J. Lynch, 74

SWAMPSCOTT — Mr. Joseph J. Lynch, 74, of Swampscott, passed away on Monday, Sept. 9, 2019 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House after a long, courageous battle with his loving family at his side. He was the husband of Frances M. “Francie” (DeLeon) Lynch, with whom he shared 37 years of marriage.

Joseph was born Feb. 13, 1945 in Philadelphia, Pa., he is the son of the late John and Anna Mae (Buckley) Lynch. He was a graduate of Bishop Egan Catholic High School in Fairless Hills, Pa. Joseph and Frances resided in Swampscott for the past 31 years and previously resided in Lynn.

He served in the United States Navy from 1963-1967 serving on the USS Boston CAG-1

He worked for Paradise Construction as a finish carpenter for many years until his retirement in 2014. Joseph worked on Cape Cod and Arlington as well as the North Shore. 

He was an avid reader and enjoyed playing chess. Joseph was an HO train collector for many years. He also enjoyed cooking, gardening and woodworking. He also enjoyed maintaining his home.

In addition to his loving wife Frances, Joseph is survived by his sons, Sean Lynch and his wife Robin of Arkansas and Patrick Lynch of New Mexico; his sister, Nancy Huslin and her husband Theodore of Richboro, Pa.; his sister-in-law, Dolores Roberts and her husband Steve of Peabody; his niece, Jodi O’Connor and her husband Michael of Swampscott; his grand nephew, Zachary Kalapinski; as well as his devoted dog Bailey. In addition to his parents, Joseph is predeceased by his brother John Lynch and his sister Dorothy Cherubini.

Service information: In honoring with Joseph’s wishes funeral services were held privately. Interment with military honors were in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, West Peabody. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to Northeast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Ave., Salem, MA 01970 or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
