SAUGUS — Marion E. (Shaw) Hurley, age 92, of Saugus, died on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Michael F. “Iggy” Hurley, with whom she shared more than 49 years of marriage.
Marion was the daughter of the late Gordon and Elizabeth (Donovan) Shaw. She graduated from Lynn Classical High School in 1944 and worked at the Massachusetts State House until the birth of her children. She was an excellent seamstress who enjoyed arts and crafts, spending summers in Center Harbor, N.H., trips to the beach, chocolate, yoga, and celebrity gossip.
She was a member of the Lady’s Sodality at Blessed Sacrament Church in Saugus for many years and was a former Girl Scout Leader. She loved sparkly accessories and had an eye for fashion and a nice shade of lipstick. “Hurls” adored the time she spent with her family whether at school and sporting events, shopping or gatherings at the homestead.
Marion is survived by her loving children, Elizabeth Batchelder and her husband Michael of Lynn, Michael Hurley Jr. of Saugus and his former wife Marlene, Cindy Hurley and her husband Bob Hundertmark of Woburn and Paula Hurley and her partner Donald Whitaker of Johnston, R.I.; her beloved grandchildren, Michelle and Rob Avery, Danielle and James Yount, Michael Jr. and Christine Batchelder, Alyssa Hurley, Brendan and Christine Hurley, Jack Boyle, Mehgan and Nick Aaker and Garret Hurley; her cherished great-grandchildren, Olivia, Annaliese, Delilah, Charlotte, McCale and Nadya; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Cecile Shaw, Patricia Corkhum, Thomas and Joyce Hurley, Paul and Sherry Hurley and Celia Hurley; and her many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, Marion was predeceased by her sons, Brian and Gerard Hurley, “adopted son” John “Traf” Folliard and her siblings, Warren Shaw, Dorothy Harrington and Ruth Shaw.
Service information: A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2018, in Sacred Heart Church, Lynn, at 9 a.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Lynn.
