JUPITER, Fla. — Mrs. Tefta E. “Teffie” (Totoni) Stevens, age 98, of Jupiter, Fla, formerly of Lynn, died at 3:39 p.m. on Dec. 6, 2018. Born and raised in Lynn, she was the daughter of the late Vasil and Katina (Caka) Totoni. She was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School and had lived in Lynn for the greater part of her life. At the time of her death, and per her wishes, she lived with her beloved son in Jupiter, Fla. In her final days, she was surrounded by family and loved ones. Her passing was peaceful.
For 51 years, until his death in 1998, Tefta was the wife of the late John A. “Jack” Stevens. Jack was loved by many in Lynn and elsewhere, but he was loved by no one more than Tefta, who diligently cared for him during his final years.
Teffie’s first priority was always family. However, she was also the founder, owner and director of the Little Red Schoolhouse in Lynn. During a time when female entrepreneurs were almost unheard of, Tefta started her childcare business in 1960. The business was a means for her to support her family while also caring for children, whom she loved dearly. From 1960 to 1985 she was the beloved teacher to thousands of Lynn girls and boys who attended the Little Red Schoolhouse over the 25 years she and her husband “Jack”, who was the school bus driver, ran the school. She cherished those memories always.
During Tefta’s life, she had also resided in South Hampton, NH, St. Petersburg, Fla, and Kissimmee, Fla. She is survived by her son; John A. Stevens of Grantham, NH and Jupiter, Fla., her grandson, David A. Stevens of San Clemente, CA, and her granddaughter; Laura K. Stevens of Weymouth, MA. She was the sister of the late James V. and Victor V. Totoni.
