SAUGUS — Yvonne (Tournas) Vlogianitis, of Saugus, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Nov. 27, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Efstratios Vlogianitis, with whom she shared 53 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Kalamata, Greece, she was the daughter of the late Elias and Katina (Kontopoulou) Tournas. She came from Greece to Montreal, Canada before settling in Lynn in the late 1960s. She had lived in Saugus for the past several years.
Yvonne worked as a CNA at Philips Manor Nursing Home in Lynn for many years until her retirement. She was also a talented seamstress. She was a very hard worker, often working two or three jobs at a time. She enjoyed visiting Greece in the summer, and loved shopping at the mall with her daughters. Her family was her greatest joy, and she loved to spend time with her daughters and grandchildren. She was happiest when she was taking care of people. Yvonne was the best mother anybody could ask for, she will be remembered as a fighter and the strongest person her family has ever known. She is loved unconditionally and will be greatly missed.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Bessie and her husband Elias Broufas of Lynn, Katerina and her husband Vasilis Kouroupis of Greece, Dena Vlogianitis of Lynn and her companion John Ewart of Haverhill; her niece, Kathy Papadopoulos of Andover, whom she considered her fourth daughter; her former son-in-law, Andreas Herouviem of Greece; her grandchildren, Georgio, Yvonne, Lefkey, Stamatis, and Katerina; two great-grandchildren, Leonidas and Achilles; her sister, Xanthepe Chepes of Florida; her brother, George Tournas of Greece; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was the sister of the late Christos and Pericles John Tournas.
Service information: Her funeral will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 54 S. Common St., Lynn. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visitation will be on Saturday from 9-10 a.m. in the church, prior to the service.
