Sylvia P. Kennedy, 84

LYNN — Sylvia Pelosi Kennedy, 84, of Lincoln, passed away on Sept. 5, 2018 in the arms of her loved ones.

She was born in Lynn on Feb. 4, 1934 to Gaetano Pelosi and Maria Pelosi. Sylvia was the youngest of her siblings. She married the late John Kennedy on Sept. 8, 1968.

Loved by all, she had many careers throughout her life. Sylvia studied at Northeastern University and the Museum of Fine Arts. Her artistic nature showed in all she did: painting, dance, and ceramics. Sylvia danced in the Radio City Rockettes as well as the Boston Lyric Opera. She was also a dance instructor at her own studio. Later she worked as a general supervisor with the Somerville Recreation Commission.

Very active in her community, Sylvia was a member of the Lincoln Garden Club and served as president for a time. Her floral designs were shown at the Boston Flower Show and Art in Bloom at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. In her church she served as wedding coordinator. For years she operated her own floral business called Fairytale Weddings.

Most recently, Sylvia served as sacristan at St Joseph’s Church in Lincoln. One of her proudest achievements was being awarded the Bishop Cheverus Award Medal from Cardinal Sean O’Malley for outstanding service to her local church.

She is survived by her sister, Josephine Zavarella of North Reading; her daughter, Christine Fletcher and son-in-law Brooke Fletcher of Watertown; her sister-in-law, Patricia Pelosi of Lynn; many nieces and nephews, and close friends. She is preceded in death by her siblings Rudolf Pelosi, Theresa Cintolo, and George Pelosi.

Service information: Relatives and friends will gather for visiting hours on Monday, Sept. 10 from 4-7 p.m. in the DEE Funeral Home, 27 Bedford St., Concord Center. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 11 at 8:45 a.m. from the Dee Funeral Home, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, 142 Lincoln Road, Lincoln. Burial will follow at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge.

In lieu of flowers please donate in Sylvia’s memory to St. Julia Parish, 374 Boston Post Road, Weston, MA 02493, to which she was so devoted.
