LYNN — Nicholas “Nick” Joseph Francullo, age 96, of Lynn, went peacefully on Sunday, Aug. 12, 2018.
Nick was born June 5, 1922 in Lynn. Mary, his loving wife, was waiting for him with open arms and they are together again after 70 years of marriage. We will miss him here on earth until we meet again.
He leaves behind three children, Helena Walsh and her husband, Bert of Irving, Texas, Nicholas J. Francullo Jr. and Mary “Terry” Levasseur and her husband, Bob, all of Lynn. His grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren were such an important part of his life. Grandchildren: Jennifer Walsh Tellef, Christine Walsh, Kathleen Walsh Lasseter, Nicolas Levasseur, Kira Levasseur Houlihan, Kimberly Levasseur, Anne Francullo, and Paul Francullo. He also leaves behind one brother, Alfred J. Francullo; and two sisters, Carmella (Millie) Costantini and Gloria Gambale, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Christina Papas and Eleanor Reppucci, and his brother, Michael Francullo.
After graduating with the Class of 1943 at Lynn English High School, he was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army 83rd Infantry Division. He participated in the D-Day Invasion in Normandy and also in the Battle of the Bulge. He earned a Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts in those battles. He was the reporter/ secretary and treasurer of the Thunderbolt magazine for the 83rd.
Nick was a letter carrier with the U.S. Post Office for more than 33 years. While in the post office he served as the president of the Lynn Postal Credit Union until his retirement. He was a member of the Gerry 5 in Marblehead. He was a longtime communicant of Holy Family Church and was famous for his outstanding meatballs served at the Festa. Nick always had a smile on his face and joy in his heart. He lit up a room and made everyone he met feel special. He was our Hero.
Service information: A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Sept. 12 at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Church, 26 Bessom St., Lynn. Burial of his and his wife, Mary’s, ashes will follow in Swampscott Cemetery.
