SAUGUS — Ethel (Bambury) Ludwig, 89, of Saugus and Lynn, passed away peacefully on Aug. 29 with her family by her side.
Ethel was born in Malden on June 2, 1929 to the late Mary and Hugh Bambury.
In her younger years Ethel worked for Saugus Bank and Trust where she met her husband, Jim Ludwig Sr., of Saugus. Ethel worked at Transitron Corp while she was married to Jim. After Jim’s passing, who passed at a very young age, she worked as a school aide for the City of Lynn for more than 30 years to support her family.
Ethel enjoyed traveling, especially taking her family on camping trips. Family gatherings were always very important to her and were part of her rituals down through the years. Ethel was always going out of her way to provide at least a joke or two. Her wit and sense of humor always shined through even up until the day of her passing.
Ethel leaves behind her caring and loving daughter, Janice Leahy and her husband Bill of Saugus. Her three sons, Jim Ludwig and his wife Carol Caefer of Naples, Fla., Scott Ludwig and his wife JoAnne of Middleton and Peter Ludwig and his wife Debbie of Lynn. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Ethel is also survived by her loving sisters, Nancy Haynes of Naples, Fla., Judith Boyle of Newton, N.H.; her brother, John Bambury and his wife Jean of Saugus; her sisters-in-law and good friends, Barbara Merrithew and Janice Bambury; her Goddaughter, Mary DiGregorio, and good friend, Carmen Laurenza, who always found time to pay a visit to cheer her up. Ethel is predeceased by her loving brothers Hugh Bambury and Bob Bambury.
Service information: A funeral Mass for Ethel will be held on Friday, Aug. 31 at 10:30 at St. Margaret’s Parish, 431 Lincoln Ave. in Saugus. A private burial will be held at a later date where she will be laid to rest alongside her loving husband Jim in Riverside Cemetery in Saugus.
