Richard Dooley Jr., 67

DANVERS — Richard “Rich” “Richie” Dooley, Jr. of Danvers, 67, died peacefully Wednesday, July 18, after a courageous battle against leukemia and salivary gland cancer from his exposure to Agent Orange. He leaves his wife of almost 20 years, Linda Marzeotti, a teacher at the Sisson Elementary School.

Born in Lynn, he was the son of Richard “Dick “Dooley of Lynn and Barbara Dooley of Key Largo, Fla. He was raised in Lynn and graduated from St. Mary’s High School and volunteered to serve in Vietnam. After Vietnam, he graduated from Newbury College with a degree in Business. He worked for over forty years at the Quincy Ship Yard, General Electric and Cheever Mechanical.

Rich loved playing, coaching, watching and reading about all sports. In his younger years he played and coached baseball, softball and street hockey. He was an avid Boston sports fan, but really looked forward to Sunday afternoons watching the Patriots.

His greatest joy was when he joined his father Dickie, in coaching a women’s travel tournament team. He loved the summer weekend tournaments and traveling on Labor Day Weekend to the Nationals. He proposed to his wife, while she was standing on third base and he was coaching third. They shared their love of baseball and traveling and had visited eight MLB parks around the country.

He also loved fishing with his Uncle Gene on Sluice Pond and Pleasant Pond in Wenham, Saturday breakfasts with his wife at Portside Diner and then mini-golf at Paradise Miniature Golf in Middleton, watching his nephew’s baseball, basketball and football games for over twenty years. He loved following AJ to the Little League Series in the summer of 2009. Rich will always be remembered for his quick wit, and sarcastic nature.

He also leaves three sisters, JoAnne Dooley and her fiancé Pete Feeley of Peabody.

Kim Drougas and her husband Arthur, and Catherine Dooley of Key Largo, Fla. His brother-in-law, Stephen Marzeotti and his wife Sydney of Lynnfield.

His seven nephews, Glenn Dooley and his two sons, Jayce and Cory Dooley, AJ and Dylan Difillipo all of Peabody, Daniel Sullivan, Aidan Marzeotti and his only sweet, niece, Annalisa Marzeotti, both of Lynnfield. His son Kevin Dooley of Connecticut.

Also his aunt, Virginia Dooley of Florida and cousin Joseph Dooley.  His in-laws, Larry Marzeotti of Peabody and Megan Kavanaugh of Naples, Florida. His softball family: Barb, Lynda, Alisa, Jodi, Sharon, Lori, Maggie, Stacey, Cindy, Pam, Betsi, Linde, CJ, Kathy P, Cathy, Dawn, Dailey and the “Rookie. “ He was predeceased by his favorite uncle and fishing partner, Eugene J. Dooley. Also, thanks to Kayley and Kyle for all their cards and art projects.

Service information: Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 1 – 3 at SOLIMINE FUNERAL HOME, 426 Broadway, (RT 129) Lynn. A Memorial Service will immediately follow the visiting hours.  Red or white or blue clothing would be appreciated, Rich wanted to be celebrated, not mourned in black.
