LYNN — Mrs. Ruth M. (Richards) Baldwin, age 96, of Lynn, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her loving family, on Friday, July 13, 2018. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Herbert George Baldwin.
Born in 1921, in Ellershouse, Nova Scotia, Canada, Ruth was the daughter of the late Nelson and Ethel (MacIvor) Richards. At the age of 2, she moved to Lynn. She was raised and educated in Lynn and graduated Lynn English High School in 1939.
She worked as secretary at a number of different insurance companies for many years. Following their retirement in 1989, Ruth and Herbert built a home in Wolfboro, N.H. Ruth lived there until 2006, returning home to Lynn, a year after Herbert’s passing.
She was an active member at Lynnfield Community Church for many years. She enjoyed ballroom swing dancing and was a member of the Salem Lancers Square Dance Club. Ruth was also a member of the North Shore Old Car Club and the New England Unit of the Wally Byam Caravan Club International, Inc. (WBCCI), serving as secretary for one season. She was a devoted wife and loving mother and nana and will be missed by all who knew her.
Ruth is survived by her daughters, Donna Baldwin of Lynn, Joan Castro and her husband John of Lynn and Karen Bignelli and her husband John of East Hartland, Conn.; her grandchildren, Jason Castro, Jaime Castro Brown and her husband Donald, Jillian Castro and David Bignelli; her great-grandson, Matthew Castro; her brother, Gerald Richards of Groveland, and her nieces and nephews, Patti Anne Chalue, Roger Beyea, Thomas Beyea, Earl Richards, Bruce Richards, Linda Giarla and Wayne Baldwin. In addition to her husband and parents, Ruth was predeceased by her grandson Michael Hutchins; her brother Earl Richards and her sisters Rita Bosse and Elizabeth Beyea.
Service information: A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 20, 2018 in the SOLIMINE Funeral Home, 426 Broadway (Route 129), Lynn, at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
