LYNN — Mr. Cleroy C. Dykes died Saturday morning, June 30, 2018, in a local nursing home following a lengthy illness.
He was the son of the late Moses C. Dykes and Phyllis Dykes–Hector. Born in Lynn, he attended the Lynn school system and was a lifelong resident of the city. Cleroy was employed by the Lynn shoe industry and retired from the Union Hospital about 2003, where he was a dedicated employee, not missing a day of work. He loved to walk and bike throughout Lynn and was a frequent customer of Brothers Deli on Market Street. Cleroy was also known for his ability to work on bicycles of all sorts.
Cle, as he was often called, was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Amelia E. Battle (Dykes) and Edward A. Battle. He is survived by four bothers and one sister, Elgar B. Dykes (Ann), Cincinnati, Ohio, Phyllis Elaine Dykes, Richard (Evelyn) Dykes and Pierre (Karen) Dykes of Syracuse, N.Y., and Aubrey Hector Jr. of Lynn. Cleroy is survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Service information: The funeral service will be held on Monday, July 9, 2018 at 11 a.m. in the CUFFE-MCGINN Funeral Home, 157 Maple St., Lynn. Relatives and friends are invited. Visitation prior to the service beginning at 10 a.m. The burial will be private. Gifts in his memory may be sent to the Life Care Center of North Shore, 111 Birch St., Lynn, MA 01902.
