MARBLEHEAD — Thelma L. (Smith) McHugh, age 80, a lifelong resident of Marblehead, passed away peacefully on May 31 after a lengthy illness. Born on November 1, 1937 in Arlington, MA, she was the only child of the late Joseph L. and Thelma (Ted) Smith. She shared 54 years of marriage with her devoted husband, Benjamin J. McHugh.
She was a member of Marblehead High School Class of 1955 and North Shore Community College Class of 1984. She worked many years as a Registered Nurse and was an avid skier.
She is survived by her children, Lisa A. Daly of Derry, N.H., Sean J. McHugh and his wife Lori, of Marblehead, and Pamela L. Finan and her husband Roger of Salem.
She was the loving grandmother to her six grandchildren who she cherished: Connor, Alexandra and Allison Daly of Derry, N.H. and Nicholas, Jessica and Emily Finan of Salem, MA.
She is also survived by her golden retriever, Riley, her son-in-law Robert Daly of Peabody, her dear friend Judith Gorman of Danvers, and several nieces and nephews.
Service information: Visiting hours for Thelma will take place on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 from 5-7 p.m. at the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St. (corner of North Street), Salem, MA 01970. A Funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at 11 a.m., also at the Murphy Funeral Home. A collation will take place immediately after the funeral. Friends and family are warmly invited to attend.
