Frances Colanton, 84

MIDDLETON — Frances (Bucchieri) Colanton, age 84, of Middleton and West Melbourne, Fla., formerly of Saugus, died on May 3 in Florida. She was the wife of Daniel Colanton Sr., with whom she shared 67 years of marriage.

Born in Grammichele, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine (Barbera) Bucchieri. Mrs. Colanton came to the United States at the age of 17 in 1949.

Already a talented seamstress, she went on to become an adult education sewing instructor at Saugus High School, owned her own cleaning and alteration business, JJ Cleaners of Brighton, with her sister Mary. Mrs. Colanton was a strong supporter of the elderly and worked for many years as a volunteer at the former Louise Caroline Nursing home in Saugus. She also worked there as an assistant dietician. A longtime communicant of St. Margaret’s Parish, she was always available to assist in any way.

Besides her husband she is survived by three children, Don Colanton and his wife Maryann of Mendon, Debora Colanton-Dalzell of Goffstown, N.H., Daniel Colanton Jr. and his wife Maria of Middleton; five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Mary Meehan.

Service information: Visiting hours will be held in BISBEE-PORCELLA Funeral Home, 549 Lincoln Ave., Saugus, on Sunday, May 13, 4-8 p.m. Funeral from the funeral home on Monday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Margaret’s Church, 431 Lincoln Ave., Saugus at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited.
