Michael A. Bryson Sr., 56

MELROSE — Michael Allen Bryson Sr., of Melrose, formerly a longtime resident of Lynn, passed away in his home on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at the age of 56.

Born in Salem on Nov. 15, 1961, he was the son of Sheila A. (Dalton) Bryson of Lynn and Joseph L. Bryson Sr. and his wife Joanne of Lynn. He was the loving companion of Deborah Stevens of Lynn. Michael was educated in both Pinkerton Academy in Derry, N.H., before completing his schooling with the Class of 1979 from Lynn Classical High School.

He went on to have a long career with the Osterman Gas Company working as a licensed service technician. As a proud Lynner, Michael was instrumental with revitalizing Keaney Park in Lynn. It was 10 years in the making with the help of his dear friend, the late John McGrath, but on April 21, 2004, the East Lynn Volunteer Field was introduced to the city. Michael spent many years as a little league coach as well. He was a delighted Papa to all of his grandchildren but especially proud of his girls’ accomplishments, whether it was cheerleading championships or being consistently named to the school honor roll.

Michael was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda J. (Brickley) Bryson, who passed in April of 2001. In addition to his parents, Michael leaves his sons, Michael Jr. and his companion Tanya Cataldi of Derry, N.H., Eric Bryson and his wife Nichole of Haverhill, and Connor Bryson and his wife Katie of Peabody. He leaves five grandchildren, Amanda, Brielle, Mikey III, Brendan, and Benjamin. He also leaves his sister, Susan (Bryson) Stoker and her husband Bert of Melrose, and his nephews, Richard, Frederick, and Alexander Stoker, who helped care for Michael during his illness, as well as his aunt, Anne Gardner of Lynn, who also helped care for him. Michael is survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Joseph L. Bryson Jr. in 1990.

Service information: Visiting hours will be held in the CUFFE-MCGINN Funeral Home, 157 Maple St., Lynn, on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 from 4-8 p.m.  A Celebration of Life service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday, May 12 at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn.
