PALM SHORES, Fla. — Michael “Mike” William Wood, 76, passed away May 2, 2017, in Palm Shores, Fla. following a brief illness. Mike was born April 18, 1941, in Norwalk, Conn. The son of FLH “Leonard” and Virginia Julia (Tyrrell) Wood. He was a long time resident of Lynn.
Mike grew up in Connecticut and Long Island, N.Y. After finishing school, he joined the Army in 1963; he was stationed in Germany for the duration of his enlistment. He was proud of his service and had a deep appreciation for others who served our country. He met and fell in love with Gail F. (Thibodeau) in 1967 and married the same year; this November is the 50th anniversary of their marriage. In addition to his parents, Mike is predeceased by his brothers Henry and David, their spouses Eileen and Frances, his brother-in-law Mark Thibodeau. He is survived by his wife Gail of Palm Shores, Fla., their sons Bruce and his wife Laura of Peabody; Wayne and his wife Eliza of Brockton; his sister Susan Wood-Tremblay and her husband Paul of Melrose; sister-in-law Cheryl Carlino and her husband Ronald of Reading; grandchildren Jared of Brockton, Charlie and Colton of Peabody. Mike also leaves brothers-in-law John Thibodeau and his wife Rita, Gary Thibodeau, Wayne Thibodeau all of California, and Stephen Thibodeau and companion Sharon of Washington.
Mike worked in the telecommunications industry retiring from Lucent Technologies in 2001. He was an avid reader, crossword doer and history buff. The family “gravymaker” his adventures in cooking will be missed. Mike had a passion for politics and boating. A long time member of the Saugus River Yacht Club, he served in many capacities finally as Commodore. Mike was also a member of the American Legion.
Service information: He will be sadly missed but remembered by his family and friends. A memorial gathering will be held Aug. 19 at Anthony’s Pier 4 Cafe, 153 Humphrey St., Swampscott, MA at 1 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital.
