BUZZARD’S BAY —Elizabeth A. “Betty” Sterling, age 79, of Buzzard’s Bay, formerly of Lynn, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2017.
She was the beloved daughter of the late Joseph F. and Mary M. (Fadden) Sterling. She leaves behind a sister, Mary C. Sullivan and her husband Robert J. Sullivan of Pocasset. She was the loving aunt of Bryan J. Sullivan, Kevin M. Sullivan and his wife Jessica and Kristen M. Sullivan, and cherished grand aunt of Nora A. Sullivan.
Betty was born in Pittston, Pa., and lived there until the early 1950’s when the family moved to Nahant and then Lynn.
Employed by the U.S. Navy, Betty worked many years as a secretary in the Fargo Building located in South Boston and also at the Watertown Arsenal. Over the years, Betty received many awards for her dedicated service to the government.
After retiring from the government, she loved her secretarial work at St. Mary’s Church in Lynn. She was honored by Cardinal Sean P. O’Malley as a recipient of the Cheverus Medal for her dedication and service to the archdiocese. Betty was a devout Catholic and served faithfully as a Eucharistic minister in her parish. She was active in the St. Vincent De Paul Society and loved to volunteer and assist with Bingo. In her spare time, Betty loved to travel the U.S. and Europe and was an avid bowler.
Service information: Funeral services for Betty will be held in the CUFFE-MCGINN Funeral Home, 157 Maple St., Lynn, on Friday, Aug. 4, 2017 at 9:30 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, 8 So. Common St., Lynn, at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Lynn. Visiting hours will be held in the funeral home on Thursday, Aug. 3 from 2-5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
