LYNN — Joyce W. Appleton, age 83, of Lynn died unexpectedly at her home on Saturday July 22 after a brief illness. Born in Lynn she was the daughter of the late Lyndon and Myrtle (Woodworth) Carew. Joyce attended Lynn schools and graduated from Lynn English High School, Class of 1950. She was employed at Shop Kwik on Lynnfield St. as a manager for over forty years. She was also a baker and baked cakes for special occasions. She was a member of the former Broadway United Methodist Church, and was former Girl Scout leader. Joyce enjoyed traveling, dining out, and loved spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by one son Wayne R. and his wife Karen Appleton of Hampton, N.H., her longtime companion Henry Forward of Lynn, four grandchildren James S. and his wife Amy DeGrandpre of Maryland, Netty and her husband Tiago Nunes of Connecticut, Jackie and her husband Chris Ritters of Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Buddy DeGrandpre of Merrimac, N.H. a son-in-law Dennis DeGrandpre of Merrimac, N.H., one brother Lyndon Carew of Burlington, Vt. She was also mother of the late Nancy L. DeGrandpre, and sister of the late Warren Carew.
Service information: Visiting hours will be held at the PARKER Funeral Home 35 Franklin St. Lynn on Wednesday from 3-6 p.m., followed by funeral services at 6 p.m. to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Joyce’s wishes were to be cremated and her ashes will be interred in Pine Grove Cemetery.
