MARSHFIELD — Thomas ‘Tom’ Joseph Healey, 79, died peacefully at his home early in the morning of Saturday, March 4, 2017, after a hard fought battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as ALS. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Maureen ‘Mo’ (McDonough) Healey, his daughter Veronica Kent of Scituate, his son Thomas Healey of Swampscott, and his beloved grandchildren Caitlin Healey, Haley Kent, Peter John ‘PJ’ Kent, Brigid Healey, Erin Healey, Nora Kent, and Tommy Healey. He also loved his great-grandson Emmitt Thomas Kent. He is preceded in death by his sister Kathleen.

Born in Boston on Sept. 17, 1937, to the late Thomas and Mary Rose (Crowley) Healey, he was raised in Dorchester, and was a lifelong resident of Massachusetts. He attended Boston State College and then spent four years with the United States Air Force in France, where he loved training the German Shepherds. He then became an MBTA streetcar driver and history teacher at South Boston High School. In 1980 he founded Alletess Medical Laboratory where he spent 35 years building a successful allergy testing company along side his daughter. He retired in 2015.

Tom was a sturdy, traditional man. He provided for his family, and enjoyed being Grandpa. The Healey’s and the Kent’s would come together every holiday to share stories, sarcasm and simply be together.

Thomas always had a passion for sports with his favorite teams being the New York Giants (with the Patriots being a close second), the Boston Bruins, and the Boston Red Sox. He enjoyed watching hockey with his grandchildren, and while he wasn’t always impressed with the team’s performance or coaching he stayed loyal.
